Economic Viability of the Energetic Use of the Wood from Caatinga Under Sustainable Forest Management A B S T R A C TAiming to evaluate the economic viability of energetic use of the wood from Caatinga under sustainable forest management was made an economic analysis considering the use of wood in different technological routes: direct commercialization of wood (1), coal production by traditional furnaces (2) and by cylindrical furnaces (3), production of energy in thermoelectric with steam cycle and condensing turbines (4) and combined cycle integrated the gasification of biomass (5). In economic analysis were included for each route costs with: purchase of the area, implementation of sustainable forest management, equipment and maintenance, tributes and taxes, current net value, minimum rate of the attractiveness, payback period of investment and internal rate of return. Routes coal production presented greater economic viability, with the investment payback period ranging from 2.4 years (cylindrical furnaces) and three years (traditional furnaces). Sensitivity analysis showed that it is possible make direct commercialization routes of wood and use of wood for energy generation in thermoelectric with increased wood productivity parameters : fuel productivity, price of the energy and fuel, or decrease in the cost of initial investment or of the price of land.
