Les travaux que nous conduisons dans le cadre de programmes de recherche (« Accueil et scolarisation des élèves allophones dans les établissements français » et « bi/plurilinguisme et langues de scolarisation ») développés en partenariat entre l’INRP et l’UMR ICAR, nous permettent d’observer de près depuis quatre ans ce qui est mis en œuvre pour les élèves nouvellement arrivés en France (ENA) dans les classes et dispositifs d’accueil. Dès nos premières enquêtes (2000-2002), nous avons pu appréhender le fait que l’introduction d’activités ou d’ateliers culturels et artistiques permet d’apporter à ces élèves transplantés, pour la plupart en difficulté sociale et psychologique, des ressources diversifiées : une palette de langages, d’expériences intellectuelles et corporelles, facilitant leur intégration scolaire. Nous rendrons compte ici d’expériences artistiques conduites dans divers collèges : des ateliers théâtres (à Avignon et à Vénissieux) et un atelier interlinguistique et interculturel de calligraphie, poésie, diction et traduction (« Voix mêlées » à Belfort). Nous nous attacherons à montrer que ces démarches ont permis de développer de façon générale et transversale des savoir-être et savoir-apprendre (confiance en soi, coopération, entraide, solidarité) et des savoir-faire scolaires importants tels que les capacités d’écoute, d’effort, de rigueur, de disponibilité, d’engagement, d’attention et de concentration... attitudes importantes pour un parcours scolaire réussi. Par ailleurs, pour ces élèves le plus souvent habitués à des démarches d’enseignement transmissives, ces pratiques les confrontent à des situations de recherche active, d’exploration personnelle et collective qui nous paraissent être un moyen de les familiariser à la « pédagogie du tâtonnement » caractéristique de nos démarches socio-constructivistes.
