DURING the past twenty years various physical properties of liquids have been utilised in an attack on the problem of the existence of racemic compounds in the liquid state, but the change of the molecular surface energy with temperature appears not t o have been applied until Gr6h a few months ago (Ber., 1912, 45,1441) recorded the result of two experiments on dimethyl tartrate and dimethyl racemate.
