A leitura deve ser uma habilidade desenvolvida e incentivada, principalmente, na escola. Os estudantes do ensino médio, chegam nessa etapa com uma vasta defasagem a respeito do hábito de leitura de livros, resultando em profunda dificuldade no momento de interpretar a leitura. Sendo assim este estudo foi realizado com alunos do Ensino Médio e parte da questão norteadora: por que há essas dificuldades em interpretação na leitura de livros nos alunos do 3º ano do Ensino Médio em uma escola pública estadual em Rio Crespo – Rondônia? Diante do exposto, este trabalho teve como objetivo descobrir por que ainda há dificuldades na interpretação da leitura de livros e como acontece a leitura e a interpretação de livros com os alunos do 3º ano do Ensino Médio dessa escola pública estadual. O estudo busca fazer uma análise de como é trabalhada a interpretação e a leitura trazendo à tona metodologias inovadoras para sanar as dificuldades em interpretação na leitura de livros. O trabalho apresenta uma amostra constituída por professores e 40 alunos, que se encontram diariamente em busca de novos resultados, desenvolvendo projetos inovadores. Os dados foram coletados no início do ano letivo e analisados qualitativamente através de descrição, observando as respostas dos alunos e dos professores. A discussão dos resultados indica que o incentivo à leitura é um fator primordial para a iniciação e continuidade da vida literária dos adolescentes e dos jovens, sendo necessária a realização de projetos contínuos de incentivos a leitura nos mais diversos níveis de escolaridade, para que quando estes cheguem ao ensino médio, já possuam as habilidades de interpretação na leitura de livros bem aprimoradas e seja possível manter a liberdade de escolha dos livros a serem lidos pelos educandos, a fim de que ocorra a continuidade das leituras por livre e espontânea vontade.
