The synthesis and structural characterisation of the difluorido organo gold(iii) complexes [AuClF2(SIMes)] and [AuF2(OTeF5)(SIMes)] are presented. The substitution of a fluorido ligand in [AuF3(SIMes)] by an OTeF5 group increases the Lewis acidity of the Au moiety. A scale for carbene affinities is presented, which correlates calculated and experimental values for the Lewis acidity of the metal centre in akin compounds.
The synthesis and structural characterisation of [(NONR)M] (NON=O(SiMe2NR)2]2−; R=tBu, Ph, 2,6‐Me2C6H3 (Dmp), 2,6‐iPr2C6H3 (Dipp); M=Ge, Sn, Pb) is described. Germanium complexes [(NONPh)Ge], [(NONDmp)Ge] and [(NONDipp)Ge] are monomeric. Tin complexes [(NONPh)Sn]2, [(NONDmp)Sn]2 and [(NONtBu)Sn]2 are dimeric in the solid‐state, with [(NONPh)Sn]2 forming a link through bridging N‐atoms, [(NONDmp)Sn]2 linked through Sn⋅⋅⋅Ar contacts and [(NONtBu)Sn]2 forming the first distannene bearing two amido ligands. In contrast, [(NONDipp)Sn] is monomeric in the solid‐state. The lead complexes [(NONPh)Pb]2 and [(NONDmp)Pb]2 are isostructual with their tin analogues while [(NONtBu)Pb] is monomeric in the solid‐state. Solution phase NMR spectroscopic data suggest that all [(NONR)M] compounds are monomeric in solution. Structural parameters, including buried volume (%Vbur) are discussed.
The ternary sulfido bismuthate K 3 [BiS 3 ] is synthesized in quantitative yields. The material exhibits nonlinear optical properties with strong second harmonic generation properties at arbitrary wavelengths in the infrared spectral range and a notable laser-induced damage threshold of 5.22 GW cm −2 for pulsed laser radiation at a wavelength of 1040 nm, a pulse duration of 180 fs, and a repetition rate of 12.5 kHz. K 3 [BiS 3 ] indicates semiconductivity with a direct optical band gap of 2.51 eV. Dielectric and impedance characterizations demonstrate κ values in the range of 6−13 at 1 kHz and a high electrical resistivity. A strong diamagnetic behavior with a susceptibility of −2.73 × 10 −4 m 3 kg −1 at room temperature is observed. These results suggest it is a promising nonlinear optical candidate for the infrared region. The synergic physical characteristics of K 3 [BiS 3 ] provide insight into the correlation of optical, electrical, and magnetic properties.
