We report a case of cardiac arrest occurring in a patient after blunt chest injury with fist during an assault event. The patient survived with prompt cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation. Subsequent electrophysiology study revealed inducible ventricular fibrillation and automatic implantable cardioverter defibrillator was implanted. The cardiac complications from blunt chest trauma are discussed. (Hong Kong j.emerg.med. 2011;18:101-106)
We report a 65-year-old male with chemical necrotising fasciitis after self-injection of permethrin insecticide. The patient also developed persistent hypoglycemia secondary to massive insulin overdose. There was no evidence of systemic toxicities from the insecticide poisoning. Multiple debridement and skin grafting were performed over his right forearm due to extensive tissue damage. He eventually recovered with impairment of his right hand function. The clinical features and the management of this uncommon route of insecticide poisoning are discussed.
Colchicine is a commonly prescribed medication. Overdose of colchicine is relatively uncommon but can be fatal. We report a 36-year-old female who survived from severe colchicine poisoning and was subsequently complicated with bronchiolitis obliterans with organizing pneumonia. The patient required a long period of mechanical ventilation but eventually recovered on supportive care.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
