Esta pesquisa apresenta o estado da arte dos últimos cinquenta anos sobre o tema “mulheres nas ciências, engenharia e tecnologia”. Competências científicas e tecnológicas são fundamentais para o desenvolvimento econômico de uma sociedade, mas ao se observar a participação feminina nesses atributos, há, historicamente, uma disparidade de gênero. Apesar de serem crescentes os debates sobre a questão, justifica-se o atual estudo bibliométrico frente à carência de pesquisas de levantamentos numéricos e de avaliação de tendências das publicações sobre o tema. Para tanto, análises descritivas e sobre a estrutura de conhecimento de artigos selecionados a partir das bases de dados Scopus e Web of Science foram conduzidas. Os resultados mostram que o período mais produtivo é recente, sendo, os Estados Unidos, o país com o maior quantitativo de publicações e Women and science careers: leaky pipeline or gender filter?, o artigo mais citado. A estrutura de conhecimento pôde ser compreendida identificando-se autores e artigos seminais, tendências de tópicos de estudos e a rede de colaboração científica mundial. Baixa média de citações anuais por artigo e reduzida colaboração entre países indicam a necessidade de realização de mais estudos, bem como de integração internacional para o melhor desenvolvimento do tema. Além de levantarmos dados precisos e relevantes, também propomos sugestões de pesquisas para o enfrentamento de desafios sobre a desigualdade de gênero nas ciências, engenharia e tecnologia.
