Uma análise crítica da implementação das tendências pedagógicas no contexto educacional brasileiro mostra que as escolas têm como tarefas a educação e o ensino e aprendizagem dos alunos em relação a conhecimentos, procedimentos, valores e tarefas que se cumprem pelas atividades pedagógicas, curriculares e docentes. Os meios e as condições de consecução desse propósito são assegurados pelas formas de organização escolar e de gestão ao agir de forma interdependente e relacional pois, de modo geral, as diferentes concepções pedagógicas têm como pressuposto que as escolas são instituições sociais que, para cumprirem seus objetivos, necessitam de condições e meios de funcionamento, apesar de haver divergência quanto à escolha e à operacionalização desses meios. Neste artigo, são apresentados elementos para um exame crítico das concepções de organização e gestão escolar no Brasil. Busca-se compreender como se dá a Organização, a Gestão e o Planejamento no âmbito escolar e a relação entre as mudanças políticas e o desenvolvimento dessas concepções em relação às funções e objetivos da escola e à adoção de práticas de organização e gestão. A metodologia utilizada foi a pesquisa bibliográfica, através de pesquisas já realizadas. O estudo constatou que a organização e a gestão escolar têm avançado em nosso país, contudo, ainda há muito a ser feito, pois faltam condições adequadas para que a conjunção dos elementos pedagógicos convirjam para uma real significação do fazer pedagógico. Por esses motivos, o artigo termina com a apresentação de conclusões parciais e com o levantamento da discussão de dilemas sociopedagógicos implicados nos estudos da escola em nossos dias.<br /><strong>Termos para indexação:</strong> Gestão escolar, planejamento escolar, concepções pedagógicas, organização escolar.<br /><div> </div>
