A manipulação visceral é aceita como uma opção de tratamento para a hipertensão arterial. Esta técnica é trabalhada sobre as vísceras com o intuito de aliviar pontos anormais de tensão, para promover melhora de sua mobilidade e tonicidade para adequar suas reais funções. As vísceras como os rins, fígado e pericárdio, exercem papel importante no controle da pressão arterial, devido a suas funções fisiológicas, mecânicas e relações nervosas do sistema nervoso autônomo. O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar os efeitos imediatos da manipulação visceral em pacientes hipertensos, que apresentaram valores pressóricos em repouso ≥ 140/90 mmHg. Neste estudo experimental participaram pacientes do Estágio de Fisioterapia Cardiorrespiratória, no ambulatório de Fisioterapia das Faculdades Adamantinenses Integradas, atendidos no período de junho a setembro de 2015. Dos 33 pacientes atendidos 10 apresentaram descompensação da pressão arterial e foram atendidos utilizando técnicas de manipulação visceral de rim, fígado, pericárdio e uma técnica de CV4. Os atendimentos foram realizados pelos próprios estagiários do setor, após treinamento com os pesquisadores. Os resultados do tratamento, dados pessoais e informações de prontuários foram descritas em uma ficha separada e individual para tabulação dos dados. Foi observado que as manipulações viscerais exercem efeito agudo de diminuição dos níveis pressóricos dos pacientes hipertensos, com diferença estatisticamente significante, em comparação com os valores iniciais (P < 0,05). Pode-se concluir que as técnicas utilizadas, nos pacientes atendidos neste estudo, mostram uma melhora nos valores da pressão arterial, portanto espera-se uma sequência de utilização das técnicas, para uma melhor compreensão de seus efeitos a médio e longo prazo.Palavras-chave: hipertensão arterial, manipulação osteopática, vísceras.
