A method to design low-pass filters (LPF) having a defected ground structure (DGS) and broadened transmission-line elements is proposed. The previously presented technique for obtaining a three-stage LPF using DGS by Lim et al. is generalized to propose a method that can be applied in design-pole LPFs for 5. As an example, a five-pole LPF having a DGS is designed and measured. Accurate curve-fitting results and the successive design process to determine the required size of the DGS corresponding to the LPF prototype elements are described. The proposed LPF having a DGS, called a DGS-LPF, includes transmission-line elements with very low impedance instead of open stubs in realizing the required shunt capacitance. Therefore, open stubs, tee-or cross-junction elements, and high-impedance line sections are not required for the proposed LPF, while they all have been essential in conventional LPFs. Due to the widely broadened transmission-line elements, the size of the DGS-LPF is compact. Index Terms-Defected ground structure (DGS), low-pass filters (LPFs), periodic structures.

The mesengenic multipotency of cryopreserved periosteum-derived progenitor cells (PDPCs) for chondrogenesis, osteogenesis and adipogenesis was investigated. Differentiation was verified using RT-PCR and histological analysis. For characterization, FACS analysis was performed with specific surface markers of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Among PDPCs, unsorted periosteum-derived cells (PDCs) and dermal fibroblasts, the most distinct characteristics were found to be CD9, CD105, and CD166. In addition, these markers in PDPCs were continuously maintained until passage 15. We developed a rapid method for the isolation of PDPCs that can differentiate into mesodermal lineages and provide enough cells in a short period of time for allogeneic cell therapy.

This paper investigates the influence of two types of gait perturbation (i.e., trip and slip) induced by a programmable split-belt treadmill on the body's compensatory responses. Our fall-inducing technology equipped with a commercially available programmable split-belt treadmill provides unpredictable trip and slip perturbations during walking. Two force plates beneath the split-belt treadmill and a motion capture system quantify the body's kinetic and kinematic behaviors, and a wireless surface electromyography (EMG) system evaluates the lower limb muscle activity. Twenty healthy young adults participated. The perturbations (i.e., trip and slip) were applied randomly to the participant's left foot between the 31st and 40th steps. The kinetic and kinematic behaviors and lower limb muscle activity were assessed during the standing, walking, and recovery periods. Compared with trip perturbations, stepping responses to slip perturbations were quicker and trunk, shoulder, and whole body center of mass movements after slip perturbations were higher; the EMG results showed that tibialis anterior, gastrocnemius, rectus femoris, and biceps femoris activities were also higher. The two common types of gait perturbation (i.e., trip and slip) induced by a commercially available programmable split-belt treadmill influenced the body's compensatory responses.

The current healthcare sector is facing difficulty in satisfying the growing issues, expenses, and heavy regulation of quality treatment. Surely, electronic medical records (EMRs) and protected health information (PHI) are highly sensitive, personally identifiable information (PII). However, the sharing of EMRs, enhances overall treatment quality. A distributed ledger (blockchain) technology, embedded with privacy and security by architecture, provides a transparent application developing platform. Privacy, security, and lack of confidence among stakeholders are the main downsides of extensive medical collaboration. This study, therefore, utilizes the transparency, security, and efficiency of blockchain technology to establish a collaborative medical decision-making scheme. This study considers the experience, skill, and collaborative success rate of four key stakeholders (patient, cured patient, doctor, and insurance company) in the healthcare domain to propose a local reference-based consortium blockchain scheme, and an associated consensus gathering algorithm, proof-of-familiarity (PoF). Stakeholders create a transparent and tenable medical decision to increase the interoperability among collaborators through PoF. A prototype of PoF is tested with multichain 2.0, a blockchain implementing framework. Moreover, the privacy of identities, EMRs, and decisions are preserved by two-layer storage, encryption, and a timestamp storing mechanism. Finally, superiority over existing schemes is identified to improve personal data (PII) privacy and patient-centric outcomes research (PCOR).
