This paper describes an interaction study conducted in Brazil that aimed to investigate how people read a digital medicine leaflet in a mobile device. This insert summarizes the main typographic characteristics of Brazilian current digital leaflets. Tests were held with the participation of 20 volunteer individuals and consisted of four stages: (1) definition of participants' profile, (2) task 1: finding specific information in the digital leaflet, (3) Task 2: reading the digital leaflet in a mobile device, (4) follow-up interview. According to the results of the interaction test, there is evidence that the current structure of the digital medicine leaflets in Brazil is not designed for access via mobile devices. The findings of this study point to the need of information design guidelines for the Brazilian digital medicine leaflets, considering interactivity and navigability aspects. It is important to propose new solutions for digital leaflets and test them with people, in order to ensure the legibility and usability of these documents.
Resumo: Neste artigo, relata--se uma pesquisa que visou a verificar a atual qualidade das telas dos dispositivos de interação móvel (DIMs) disponíveis no mercado brasileiro. Este esforço se conduziu com o objetivo de avaliar os efeitos das limitações de resolução na tipografia destinada à leitura em meios digitais. Por meio de um referencial teórico específico sobre essa temática, define--se o problema como característica elementar da tipografia digital desde o início da adaptação da linguagem tipográfica aos equipamentos eletrônicos. Em seguida, descreve--se o levantamento de dados colhidos nos sites das cinco empresas responsáveis pelos maiores números de vendas de DIMs no Brasil. A partir de tais dados, caracterizam--se as limitações de resolução em telas de dispositivos móveis como uma questão ainda relevante para os designers atualmente.Palavras--chave: tipografia, tecnologias digitais, dispositivos de interação móvel.

Typography plays a central role in providing information in medicine leaflets since these documents are predominantly constituted of text. This article reports a study conducted in Brazil, aimed at investigating the importance of typographic features in digital leaflets. It is divided into three stages: an analytical study of digital PILs, an interaction study with users reading a digital leaflet on a mobile device, and a field study with developers. Results point out deficiencies in graphic presentation of the documents, with a negative effect in reading and finding information. Considering this, guidelines are proposed to improve the design of digital PILs for mobile devices.
Typography is an essential foundation for graphic design and information design. The teaching of this subject aims to set background knowledge on aspects such as the production and use of letterforms. In this article, we present an approach to teaching typography based on information design as an instrument for understanding and analyze results of students’ production of print posters during classes. We designed an integrative activity that sought to make them experience different facets of typography, from its relation with calligraphy to the sculptural nature of printing types and digital vector drawing on the computer, with an active learning approach.
