El objetivo de este estudio es analizar las características perilaríngeas y semiológicas de mujeres con odinofonía. Mediante el uso de algometría de presión, de una escala numérica y de una encuesta sometida a procesos de validación y de consistencia interna, se trabajó con 40 participantes de sexo femenino. Se formaron dos grupos de 20 sujetos cada uno (G1 o asintomático y G2 o con odinofonía). Los umbrales de presión de G1 se encontraron entre los 1000 y 2700 gramos, mientras que los de G2 fluctuaron entre los 500 y 2000 gramos (p = 0.000). El 60 % de las participantes indicó que el lugar de menor umbral de presión es donde siente habitualmente el dolor durante la fonación. A su vez, se observó que la odinofonía es una condición que mejora con el descanso, se acompaña principalmente de sensación de irritación y de picazón del tracto vocal, su localización tiende a ser precisa y ocasionalmente afecta a la deglución. Por último, se observó que la intensidad habitual de la odinofonía es moderada. En conclusión, la odinofonía se trata de una condición que se produce con la sobrecarga vocal y se acompaña de aumento en la sensibilidad perilaríngea. Las mujeres con odinofonía presentan características semiológicas y psicosociales específicas para su condición.
El estudio de la articulación temporomandibular y su relación con la función vocal ha recibido poca atención por parte de los investigadores. Las principales repercusiones de esto inciden negativamente en la labor y en la toma de decisiones del clínico. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar la evidencia que relaciona a la articulación temporomandibular con la función vocal, tanto normal como patológica. Se llevó a cabo una revisión de la literatura mediante el análisis de artículos encontrados en las bases de datos PubMed, EBSCOHost, Scielo y Scopus. La evaluación de cada trabajo se hizo según título, abstract y criterios de elegibilidad. Los artículos analizados evidenciaron asociación entre la articulación temporomandibular y la función vocal. La disfunción temporomandibular severa afecta negativamente la percepción de la voz, mientras que, el descenso mandibular permite mayor intensidad vocal, optimiza la resonancia y facilita el control de la frecuencia fundamental.
Tradicionalmente, se ha planteado que el reposo es la herramienta ideal para permitir la recuperación natural de los tejidos inducidos a sobrecarga. Sin embargo, los tiempos necesarios para que esto se produzca son muy largos. Se ha estimado que la electroterapia es útil al momento de recuperar algunos tejidos sobreutilizados, no obstante, se desconocen estos beneficios en la función vocal. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo describir los efectos de la electroterapia sobre los tejidos laríngeos y cordales que previamente fueron sometidos a sobrecarga vocal. En esta investigación participaron 21 mujeres sin patología o entrenamiento vocal, cuya edad fue de 24 ± 1,28 años. Las participantes fueron sometidas a sobrecarga vocal por 40 minutos y posteriormente, a 15 minutos de estimulación eléctrica transcutánea (TENS) de tipo acupuntura. A través de laringoscopía con luz continua, análisis acústico-perceptual y estudio sintomatológico, se examinaron los cambios provocados por la electroterapia. Los principales resultados incluyen a la relajación perilaríngea y de los músculos intrínsecos sobreutilizados, y eliminación de los síntomas sufridos. De esta forma, se concluye que la TENS de tipo acupuntura es una herramienta útil en la aceleración de la recuperación de los tejidos sometidos a sobrecarga vocal.
