Abhängig von den Erfassungs-und Definitionskriterien für Intelligenzminderung liegt die Gesamtprävalenz in Deutschland bei ca. 1,0% (Neuhäuser und Steinhausen 2013). Prävalenzangaben in der internationalen Literatur schwanken zwischen 0,6% und 1,83% (Maulik et al. 2011). Dabei ist zu berücksichtigen, dass die Prävalenzen altersabhängigen Schwankungen unterliegen und im Schulalter (bis 15 Jahre) am höchsten sind. Das Verhältnis männliches zu weiblichem Geschlecht beträgt 0.9 zu 0.7, bei Kindern und Jugendlichen 1.0 zu 0.4 (Neuhäuser und Steinhausen 2013). Das liegt zum Teil an X-chromosomalen Gendefekten, von denen 0,1 bis 0,17% aller intelligenzgeminderten Jungen betroffen sind (Ropers 2006, Gécz et al. 2009). 3.2. Definitionen und Klassifikationen 3.2.1. Definitionen Nach den beiden Klassifikationssystemen ICD-10 und DSM-IV ist Intelligenzminderung wie folgt definiert: DSM-V (2013; nicht autorisierte Übersetzung) 2 Intellectual disability (intellectual developmental disorder) ersetzt den Begriff "mental retardation" aus dem DSM-IV. Die Diagnose umfasst Beeinträchtigungen allgemeiner psychischer Fähigkeiten, die wiederum das adaptive Funktionsniveau in drei Domänen oder Bereichen behindern. Die drei Domänen sind: die konzeptionelle, die Sprache, Lesen, Schreiben, Mathemathik, Urteilen, Denken, Wissen und Gedächtnis einschließt, die soziale Domäne mit Empathie, sozialem Urteilsvermögen, interpersonellen Kommunikationsfähigkeiten, Fähigkeiten zur Beziehungsaufnahme und zum Halten dieser und nicht zuletzt die praktische Domäne, die auf Selbstmanagement, Hygiene, berufliche Verantwortlichkeit, Umgehen mit Geld, Freizeitverhalten, Schulbesuch und andere Arbeitsaufgaben fokussiert.
