Background: Limiting close physical contact is key to helping reduce the spread of the coronavirus by using the portable eye examination kit (Peek Acuity), which has been recognized as a reliable and valid tool to measure visual acuity. This study is aimed to compare the effectiveness of the Peek Acuity and ETDRS (Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study) chart as the gold standard for screening in school-age students. Methods: This study used an observational research design with cross-sectional data collection methods to compare the effectiveness of the Peek Acuity application diagnostic test and ETDRS chart for screening in school-age students. Sample collection was done by total sampling technique on students aged 6-12 from one of the elementary schools in Surabaya. The study was conducted from October 2019 to November 2019. OpenEpi analyzed the validity and reliability of the results to compare the effectiveness of Peek Acuity and the ETDRS chart. Results: There were 231 students with details aged 6-9 years, as many as 150 students and aged 10-12 years, as many as 81 students. On examination of visual acuity using peek acuity and ETDRS chart, it indicated that the number of subjects with refractive errors was more than normal eyes. Peek acuity has been shown to have low sensitivity and high specificity. Higher specificity was found in children aged 10-12 years compared to 6-9 years. Conclusion: The Peek Acuity application has higher effectiveness in screening than the ETDRS chart. It is practical, fast, and easy to use. The Peek Acuity application is considered effective for screening school-age students due to its high rate of specificity
The Orbscan's benefits include providing a thickness map and being noncontact for keratoconus screening. However, several developing countries have delayed keratoconus management due to a lack of resources and qualified examiners. Here we report a case of underdiagnosed and mistreated by high astigmatism, leading to a neglected case of keratoconus. A 34-year-old woman is bothered by her developing blurred eyesight and habit of scratching her eyes. The streak retinoscopy examination revealed the right eye was 5/20 cc S+7.75 C-6.00 Axis 150 became 5/15 and 5/20 cc S+7.25 C-6.00 Axis 80 became 5/15 for the left eye. The Placido test revealed irregular lines. The Schirmer test showed dry eyes. Slit-lamp examination revealed irregular thin cornea, Munson sign, Rizzuti's sign, and Vogt's striae were positive. The manual keratometer showed remarkably high corneal powers. The corneal topography showed characteristics of keratoconus. Scleral contacts with AS-OCT guiding were inserted into both eyes. Each eye's final BCVA improved to 5/12 and 5/6.5, respectively. The patient attained better visual performance and comfort. Detecting keratoconus by corneal topography and scleral contact lens fitting improved visual acuity. A skillful practitioner and accessible sources are essential to prevent these neglected cases.
Social media is one of the diversity of information offered and flexibility in forming friendship connections. Everyone has freedom of opinion on a worldwide basis. The number of people who are not responsible for sharing hoax news with the intention of provoking their opponents. This study supports the decision to determine hoax news and determines hoax news by applying the Fuzzy Logic of the mamdani method using the programming language used in making applications, namely Web, Database and MySql. The criteria supporting the decision to determine hoax news are Spread, Media Literacy, Significance and Certainty. So it can be concluded that the hoax news level is at 11,824 or is categorized as MEDIUM
Introduction: Management of low vision in pediatric patients with greater result can affect their quality of life than in adult low vision patients.. Retinopathy of Prematurity is the main cause of blindness in children. A case study highlights the tertiary prevention (low vision examination and management) in a 5 year old boy with ROP related blindness to optimize his remaining visual capacity by using optical and non optical aids that support daily activity and educational learning.Case Report: A 5 year old boy with ROP related blindness visited to the low vision clinic after receiving the several treatments for ROP before. His visual acuities were light perception in the right eye and hand movement in the left eye using his current spectacle correction. He had anti VEGF bevacizumab intravitreal injection, vitrectomy and complicated cataract extraction history on the left eye. He wasdifficult to learn and read numbers and alphabets caused by visual impairment.Discussion : Upon evaluation by assessment low vision method, his distance visual acuity in the left eye was improved significantly up to 3/40 on LEA Acuity chart with +14.00D. His near vision became 10 M at 30 cm of reading distance (without near correction) and 4 M at 13 cm improved with +3.00 D by spectacle. The non optical aid devices as reading task were also suggested to improove continuous reading text without difficulty. Conclusion: ROP blindness can be preventable if appropriate, adequate and accessible screening programmes are available. Unfortunately, even with the current screening guidelines and recommended treatment of ROP, many babies suffer from blindness by this disease each year. Low vision assessment and management in pediatric patient with visual impairmentaccording to children’s need can optimize the recent visual capability of low vision patient and give self care daily activity and educational learning.
