The cultural and creative industries have received considerable global attention in recent years; in particular, the close relationship between these industries and design has been identified. Because mysterious and attractive East Asian aesthetic are a crucial contemporary style, this study examined a fashion exhibition held in the New York Metropolitan Museum, which entitled “China: Through the Looking Glass” and conducted a literature review, scale design, survey and data analysis, and factor analysis about the incorporation of cultural elements in fashion design. Subsequently, the perceptions of college students with various educational backgrounds on several selected exhibits were identified and analyzed. The results were revealed that: (1) the research scale can be used as a reference for related design teaching and in the appraisal of fashion products in the design industry; (2) cultural connotations are more notable in design than the technical aspects; (3) compared with students of other backgrounds, students with a background in fashion design emphasized more on the technical and professional aspects and expressed a preference for design pieces with experimental qualities, such as those made with stiff materials and having exaggerated styles, and neutral and neat straight lines.
There are nearly 7,000 street cleaners in Taipei city and their uniform is part of the city color; however, what they wear everyday for work is neither highly impressive nor fully functional. This workwear re-designing project is developed by adopting design thinking as a premise for the improvement of the uniform of Taipei's cleaner team to enhance the overall image and to improve the street cleaners' work efficiency and safety. The project requires involving multiple perspectives and conducting analyses of tremendous amount of data collected through discussions with the citizens from Adaptive City with topics ranging from sustainable environment and public issues to core social values. By integrating design thinking into this project, various perspectives can be introduced while more and more core design values can be verified. In a hope to make design an idea publically recognized and a value widely accepted as well as to highlight everyday aesthetics and quality city life, the study will create comfortable workwear with emblematic color combinations, adopting proper promoting strategies, applying innovative procedures, and eventually refreshing certain specific occupational image.
Abstract. The aims of this study were to identify how governmental technology development program (TDP) improves the service value in service firms and to investigate how service firms construct value constellations through relationships with other firms. A multiple cases study research is conducted, focusing on the companies with outstanding performance which participating 2013 Commercial Service Value Enhancement Plan hosted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan. The research main findings are: (1) ICTs enhance service value through six key factors: data envelopment analysis for customers; creating switching costs for industry entry barriers; integrating resources among the value constellation members and elevating productivity; improving internal and external communication for the organization; organizing activities, quick responses to customer needs and strengthening customer relationships; and identifying new members for the value constellation. (2) We categorised the service value enhancement of TDP firms into three types: internal operation improvements, industrial network enhancements; and transactional relations. Internal operation improvements primarily involved creating value within a TDP firm.
