Le steLLe dimenticate: note 'aratee' suLLa quarta ode deL TiesTe di seneca Abstract: the fourth and final ode of seneca's Thyestes interprets the sudden disappearance of the sun, caused by the crimes of atreus, as a sign of cosmic disruption and the return of chaos. despite extensive critical exegesis, scholars have not paid much attention to the thirtytwo verses (842-874) in which seneca, with considerable erudition, describes the fall of the constellations one by one. this paper analyses the astronomical section and its specific connections with the aratean tradition in Latin poetry, which have not yet been fully recognised.
The city of Nardò has Messapian origins (second half of the 8th -3rd cent. BC) and and subsequently became the important Roman centre of Neretum. The the continuity of life up to the present day through the Byzantine, Angevin and Aragonese dominations conditions and limits the knowledge of the most ancient phases of occupation. Indeed, the archaeological evidence of the Messapian and Roman period is very limited. To investigate about the presence of buried archaeological remains some geophysical surveys were undertaken at the historical centre of Nardò. Particularly some areas in Umberto I square were considered. Ground penetrating radar method was used. Results revealed anomalies that could be related to archaeological structures.
The condition of the wood structure and its components should be carefully recorded before considering any action. The diagnosis of wood structures in heritage should precede any intervention. Is important to know preliminarily the construction and structural system, the decay condition and the causes. Furthermore, damage or structural failure should be considered. The diagnosis must be based principally on measurements of physical parameters using non-destructive testing (NDT), and if necessary on laboratory testing. Water is one of the principal causes of wood decay. In this study Groundpenetrating radar (GPR) and time domain reflectometry (TDR) was used to estimate the dielectric permittivity and successively the volumetric water content of several types of wood. An empirical relationship was found between the dielectric constant and volumetric water content. Results were applied to a case study: the Cathedral of Foggia.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
