The Liophant Simulation Club (LSC) is a nonprofit association that gathers under its flag researchers, faculty members, freelance consultants, company and government employees, students, and persons who are interested in computer simulation all over the world, and it is a chapter of SCS International. The general aims of the club are to show how simulation could be more and more useful in an increasing number of application fields, as well as to give opportunities to members for learning new simulation concepts and skills and for supporting seminars, stages, and conferences on simulation topics. In order to spread simulation and extend its use all over the world, LSC has promoted a series of innovative projects involving traditional and new partners. One of the first new initiatives of LSC was to create a network of people interested in simulation for industry, exchanging information and establishing a common baseline for simulation studies and future standards. This project began in May 2000 with the first SIREN (Simulation Report & Networking) meeting, with more than 60 attendees coming from academia, industries, government, institutions, and research centers. The LSC, with the collaboration of the McLeod Institute for Simulation Sciences, organized 3-day courses on modelling and simulation (M&S)-each one with a different topic such as M&S basis, high-level architecture (HLA), and verification, validation, and accreditation (VV&A) techniquesthat supported development of staff working on supply chain applications. The attendance was quite diverse, coming from shipbuilding and aerospace industries, retail companies, research centers, local authorities, and universities. More than 100 people attended the courses held during the past year, attending lectures and completing exercises and case studies. Teachers came from various affiliations: Aegis Technologies,
