Oral communication abstractsResults: A total of 346 postmenopausal women without vaginal bleeding underwent transvaginal ultrasound. The endometrium was clearly visualised in 327/346 women and they were included in the analysis. The measurements of ET ranged between 0.7-18mm. In 69/327 (21.1%, 95% CI 16.7-25.5) women, the ET measured ≥4.5mm. And in 17/327 (5.2%, 95% CI 2.8-7.6) the ET was ≥11mm. In the group of women with an ET ≥11mm, the prevalence of malignancy or premalignancy was 3/17 (17.6%, 95% CI 0-35.8), 6 invasive procedures would therefore be required to detect 1 case of malignancy or premalignancy. Conclusions: Malignancy or premalignancy can be found in a proportion of postmenopausal women without vaginal bleeding in whom the ET measured ≥11mm, women should be counselled individually about the risk of malignancy or premalignancy against invasive procedures.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
