PurposeFood waste and retail losses due to expiration dates are an important problem worldwide. Expiration date-based pricing (EDBP) is a price promotion technique consisting of charging different prices for perishable product approaching expiration date. The authors explore the influence of EDBP on impulse buying (IB) and on cognitive dissonance.Design/methodology/approachA mall intercept survey in Egypt was used to test the proposed model.FindingsThe results show that, while EDBP does not affect IB, it impacts cognitive dissonance. In addition, cognitive IB impacts cognitive dissonance, while affective IB does not.Practical implicationsResults suggest that there is a need to reconsider the effects of EDBP and call for alternative strategies to promote products approaching its expiration date, including strategies based on environmental protection by reducing waste arguments rather than on the sales promotional framework.Originality/valueIn spite of the importance of understanding consumer behaviour with perishable goods, this topic has taken little or no attention in the literature. The results provide useful insights for understanding EDBP.
During the war crisis, consumers tended to panic buy products out of fear of publicising news that products would be scarce. Additionally, during the same period, customers' perceptions of what to buy and what not to buy are critical and can lead to a demand-side risk. This study aims to understand how non-coercive influence during the crisis can motivate consumers' perceived scarcity, resulting in panic buying behaviour that influences demand side risk. The proposed research model is tested using Structural Equation Modeling. The findings demonstrated that non-coercive influence during crises significantly impacts perceived scarcity. However, perceived scarcity had no statistically significant impact on panic buying behaviour, as evidenced by the rejection of the study's second hypothesis. Managers can avoid demand-side risk and improve customer satisfaction by considering theoretical and practical aspects. Finally, this research is not without limitations because this study was done at the beginning of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, so it may not fully reflect the situation's actual conclusion. Also, the research has been done without considering the cultural factors' effect on consumers. However, cultural behaviour measurements in the investigated country should be considered in future research.
Time is a vital resource available to all human beings. The current research, therefore, aims to clarifies the relationship between time management and the quality of production, the disclosure of how the engineer organizes his/her time, and the extent to which cultural and societal factors influence the use of time. This study aims to explore the effects of working place on employee productivity with a quantitative approach, the data was collected using a survey method. The survey was adopted from previous literature and data was analysed using SPSS. The study sample included several engineers from different fields in different companies. The research has produced several findings, including the importance of time planning, which is an essential factor contributing to increasing production rates, and the different perspectives of engineers to define and understand the term time management, which leads to the finding that the time factor is a significant factor for all engineers to get successful results at the end of the day. Finally, the analyses and the final results were discussed to clarify the importance of the time management element and its relationship to the workplace and to reach conclusions and nominations.
