The molecular weight of a conjugated polymer is one of the key factors determining the electrical, morphological, and mechanical properties as well as its solubility in organic solvents and miscibility with other polymers. In this study, a series of semicrystalline poly[(2,5-bis(2-hexyldecyloxy)phenylene)-alt-(5,6-difluoro-4,7-di(thiophen-2-yl)benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole)] (PPDT2FBT) polymers with different number-average molecular weights (M(n)'s) (PPDT2FBT(L), M(n) = 12 kg/mol; PPDT2FBT(M), M(n) = 24 kg/mol; PPDT2FBT(H), M(n) = 40 kg/mol) were synthesized, and their photovoltaic properties as electron donors for all-polymer solar cells (all-PSCs) with poly[[N,N'-bis(2-octyldodecyl)-napthalene-1,4,5,8-bis(dicarboximide)-2,6-diyl]-alt-5,5'-(2,2'-bithiophene)] (P(NDI2OD-T2)) acceptor were studied. The M(n) effect of PPDT2FBT on the structural, morphological, electrical, and photovoltaic properties was systematically investigated. In particular, tuning the M(n) induced dramatic effects on the aggregation behaviors of the polymers and their bulk heterojunction morphology of all-PSCs, which was thoroughly examined by grazing incident X-ray scattering, resonant soft X-ray scattering, and other microscopy measurements. High M(n) PPDT2FBT(H) promoted a strong "face-on" geometry in the blend film, suppressed the formation of an excessively large crystalline domain, and facilitated molecularly intermixed phases with P(NDI2OD-T2). Therefore, the optimized all-PSCs based on PPDT2FBT(H)/P(NDI2OD-T2) showed substantially higher hole and electron mobilities than those of PPDT2FBT(L)/P(NDI2OD-T2), leading to a power conversion efficiency exceeding 5%, which is one of the highest values for all-PSCs reported thus far.

Flexible zinc–air batteries (ZAB) are a promising battery candidate for emerging flexible electronic devices, but the catalysis‐based working principle and unique semi‐opened structure pose a severe challenge to their overall performance at cold temperature. Herein, we report the first flexible rechargeable ZAB with excellent low‐temperature adaptability, based on the innovation of an efficient electrocatalyst to offset the electrochemical performance shrinkage caused by decreased temperature and a highly conductive hydrogel with a polarized terminal group to render the anti‐freezing property. The fabricated ZABs show excellent electrochemical performances that outperform those of many aqueous ZABs at room temperature. They also deliver a high capacity of 691 mAh g−1 and an energy density of 798 Wh kg−1 at −20 °C (92.7 % and 87.2 % retention of the room temperature counterparts, respectively), together with excellent flexibility and reverting capability.

Perfectly hydrophobic (PHO) coatings consisting of silicone nanofibers have been obtained via a solution process using methyltrialkoxysilanes as precursors. On the basis of thermal gravimetry and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) results, the formula of the nanofibers was tentatively given and a possible growth mechanism of the nanofibers was proposed. Because of the low affinity between the coatings and the small water droplet, when using these coatings as substrate for collecting water vapor, the harvesting efficiency could be enhanced as compared with those from bare glass substrate for more than 50% under 25 °C and 60-90% relative humidity. By removing the surface methyl group by heat treatment or ultraviolet (UV) irradiation, the as-prepared perfectly hydrophobic surface can be converted into a superhydrophilic surface.

A new polyaniline (PANI)-functionalized graphene oxide (GO-PANI) was prepared by using an in situ oxidative graft polymerization of aniline on the surface of GO. Its highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO), lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO), ionization potential (IP), and electron affinity (EA) values experimentally estimated by the onset of the redox potentials were -5.33, -3.57, 5.59, and 3.83 eV, respectively. A bistable electrical-switching effect was observed in electronic device with the GO-PANI film sandwiched between the indium tin oxide (ITO) and Al electrodes. This device exhibited two accessible conductivity states, that is, the low-conductivity (OFF) state and the high-conductivity (ON) state, and can be switched to the ON state under a negative electrical sweep, and can also be reset to the initial OFF state by a reverse (positive) electrical sweep. The ON state is nonvolatile and can withstand a constant voltage stress of -1 V for 3 h and 10(8) read cycles at -1 V under ambient conditions. The nonvolatile nature of the ON state and the ability to write, read, and erase the electrical states, fulfill the functionality of a rewritable memory. An ON/OFF current ratio of more than 10(4) at -1 V achieved in this memory device is high enough to promise a low misreading rate through the precise control of the ON and OFF states. The mechanism associated with the memory effects was elucidated from molecular simulation results.
