The purpose of this study was to examine the nexus amid economic growth, energy consumption and carbon emissions in G20 countries for the period 1992 to 2014. In order to obtain valid and reliable outcomes, more robust econometric techniques were employed. From the results, the studied panel was heterogeneous and cross-sectionally dependent. Also, the series of observed variables were first-differenced stationary and co-integrated. The key findings from the CCEMG and the AMG regression estimators adopted showed that economic growth and energy consumption promoted the emission of carbon in the countries. In addition, urbanization and foreign direct investments as control variables escalated the rate of the countries’ CO2 emissions. From the discoveries of the Dumitrescu and Hurlin panel causality test, a feedback causality between economic growth and CO2 emissions; energy consumption and CO2 emissions; and between urbanization and CO2 emissions were correspondingly unveiled. Howerver, a one-way caual link was evidenced from foreign direct investments to CO2 emissions. This exploration is vital because it will propel the countries to formulate policies that could help them to minimize their dependence on environmentally unfriendly energy sources, while promoting the usage of clean energies like solar, wind, biogas, biomass and hydropower among others. The study is also pertinent because it will aid the countries to plan, organize and implement environmental policies in compliance to their macroeconomic objectives. When this is accomplished, energy conservation policies implemented to minimize the emanation of CO2 will improve the countries’ economic growth.
Biased decisions made by automatic systems have led to growing concerns in research communities. Recent work from the NLP community focuses on building systems that make fair decisions based on text. Instead of relying on unknown decision systems or human decisionmakers, we argue that a better way to protect data providers is to remove the trails of sensitive information before publishing the data. In light of this, we propose a new privacy-aware text rewriting task and explore two privacyaware back-translation methods for the task, based on adversarial training and approximate fairness risk. Our extensive experiments on three real-world datasets with varying demographical attributes show that our methods are effective in obfuscating sensitive attributes. We have also observed that the fairness risk method retains better semantics and fluency, while the adversarial training method tends to leak less sensitive information.

Background. Health-related physical fitness is vital for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to gain healthier lives. The adapted rhythmic gymnastics (ARG) program was designed for children with IDD and is aimed at testing the effects of the exercise program on children’s physical fitness. Methods. Participants were recruited from two special needs schools in Beijing of China. Twenty-two children with IDD were assigned to an ARG experimental group or a traditional control group. The experimental group took part in a 16-week ARG program consisting of three 50 min sessions each week. And children’s body composition, aerobic capacity, and musculoskeletal functioning were measured by the Brockport Physical Fitness Test (BPFT) before and after the program. Results. The between-group analysis revealed great improvements for the experimental group in abdominal strength (curl-up test: p=0.025<0.05) and upper limb strength (dumbbell press test: p=0.038<0.05). Compared to the pretest, most of the physical fitness parameters improved significantly in the experimental group except BMI, and flexibility of the experimental group children showed a substantial increase. Conclusions. Most of the physical fitness parameters of children with IDD in the experimental group improved significantly, especially on abdominal strength and upper limb muscle strength when comparing to the control group.
