The absorption of workers with disabilities in Indonesia is still limited. The companies argue that it is difficult to meet accessibility for disabled workers because it requires a lot of funds, for instance facilities that need to be made so that the workplace accessible for people with disabilities. This research is aimed at answering the questions of how the accessibility of persons with disabilities in employment opportunities in private companies in Indonesia, what obstacles encountered by persons with disabilities who work in private companies, and how the solutions are provided so that persons with disabilities have easy access to work in private companies. This is a qualitative research with a case study approach. The data collection in this study used semi-structured interviews with 20 people with disabilities consists of 10 people with disabilities who were rejected by companies and 10 people with disabilities who had been accepted to work but finally decided to quit. In this study, a public policy expert was also interviewed to obtain data on how policies related to persons with disabilities were implemented. The results of this study indicate that there are still many people with disabilities who are rejected to work by the companies. If anyone is already working, eventually they have to resign considering the unequal treatment they have received, both from the leaders and fellow employees. However, until now there has never been a company that got a sanction even though the regulations regarding the treatment of persons with disabilities have been affirmed in Law Number 8/2016. Therefore, stricter supervision is needed for private companies so that they not only fulfill the quota of 1% of employees with disabilities out of the total number of employees, but also pay attention and treat employees with disabilities the same as other employees.
Information Communication Technology (ICT) enhances accessibility, efficiency, and quality of education. This study aimed to examine the status of ICT resources in teaching and learning in public primary special schools in Nairobi County, Kenya. Questionnaires, interviews, observation schedules, and manuals for document analysis were used to collect data from respondents. Research shows that most special schools have regular ICT resources provided by digital literacy programs (DLP), such as laptops and tablets. However, there is limited investment in specialized ICT resources to support the teaching and learning of children with disabilities and special educational needs. Research also shows that ICT resources are limited because most of the devices are kept by school administrators or teachers who do not know how to use them. The study concludes that limited investment in assistive and/or adaptive digital technologies and devices will harm the attainment of ICT skills as a fundamental skill by children with disabilities in special schools and special needs units. The study recommends the establishment of a technical committee on design innovation and equipment technology. This will complement DLP's efforts in providing resources for special schools to make better use of ICT for students with disabilities and special educational needs.

Information Communication Technology (ICT) plays a central role in facilitating education in the 21st century. For successful integration of ICT in teaching and learning teachers play a key role. As such, there is a need for competent teachers in applying ICT skills to teach and facilitate learning. This study sought to examine teachers’ ICT competency in implementing Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) in public primary special schools in Nairobi County ii Kenya. The study used a semi-structured questionnaire tool to collect data from 99 teachers and 41 head teachers from public primary special schools in Nairobi County. Mixed-Methods Research (MMR) where both Statistical Methods and thematic analysis approaches were used to analyse the data. Statistical Methods used include descriptive analysis such as frequencies and percentages and bivariate analysis approaches including Chi-square tests of hypothesis regarding the relationship between teacher’s ICT competency and implementation of DLP. The study found that the role played by DLP in building teacher ICT skill capacity is 28.4% lower in special schools compared to regular schools. As a result, teachers of children with disabilities and special educational needs have limited relevant ICT skills such as assistive technology to support teaching and learning. The study also found that whilst there may be a significant proportion of teachers skilled with ICT skills, lack of access to digital devices and internet connectivity makes it difficult for them to demonstrate their competency and apply the same to the teaching of children with disabilities. Based on the results of this study, recommendations for policy enhancement and improvement of practice have been made.

Article visualizations:
