This report critiques the system known as Dante Lab by accessessing the record of l’Ottimo Commento’s commentary on Dante’s Purgatorio. Dante Lab provid- ed users with a variety of options that allowed for increasing engagement with the record, the depths of which is only apparent when looking into the design and assumptions of the system. The presentation of the record is done without any interpretative work, which is left to the user to abstract. It was found that the Dante Lab database is accessible and understandable to a range of users, from novices to Dante Scholars, and extensively improves on its predecessor system, the Dante Dartmouth Project (DDP).
