Biomimetic growth of calcium phosphate over natural polymer may be an effective approach to constituting an organic/inorganic composite scaffold for bone tissue engineering. In this work, N-methylene phosphochitosan (NMPCS) was prepared via formaldehyde addition and condensation with phosphoric acid in a step that allowed homogeneous modification without obvious deterioration in chitosan (CS) properties. The NMPCS obtained was characterized by using FT-IR and elemental analysis. The macroporous scaffolds were fabricated through a freeze-drying technique. A comparative study on NMPCS and CS scaffold biomimetic mineralization was carried out in different media, i.e, a simulated body fluid (SBF) or alternative CaCl(2) and Na(2)HPO(4) solutions respectively. Apatite formation within NMPCS and CS scaffolds was identified with FT-IR, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) and X-ray diffractometery (XRD). The results revealed alternate soaking of the scaffolds in CaCl(2) and Na(2)HPO(4) solutions was better than soaking in SBF solution alone in relation to apatite deposition on the scaffold pore walls. Biomineralization provides an approach to improve nature derived materials, e.g., chitosan derivative NMPCS properties e.g., compressive modulus, etc. SEM image of a NMPCS/apatite composite scaffold.
Experiments have been performed to observe flow pattern and investigate convective heat transfer for air-water vertical flow in a forced circulation system. The bubbles motion was recorded by a high-speed CCD camera. For the bubble and slug flow pattern, the temperature fluctuation signals and local heat transfer coefficients were obtained in a short heated tube. The probability density function classical was applied to analyze the temperature. The results qualitatively reflected characteristics of local heat transfer in two phase flow comparing with that in single-phase liquid. The comparison revealed that the gas phase could enhance the heat transfer.
That the oil and gas exploration and development is extending into deep water proceeds the rapidly shift to subsea production system. However, complex subsea equipment and frequency offshore accidents aroused the concern on the risk assessment of subsea system. The paper illustrates the hazard aspects which should be focused on in the subsea equipment compared with the surface equipment. The hazards identification and risk analysis on subsea X-tree system is carried out. A general risk-prevent process of subsea X-tree system is illustrated, so does the reliability analysis process. Besides, some commendations on subsea detection and maintenance are presented in the paper.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
