Background: Health care institutes started mentorship programs for the professional and social development of trainees and junior health care staff. The objective of the present study was to find the perceptions of mentees and mentors about the process of the mentorship program at Qassim Family Medicine academy. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was carried out among the mentees (60) and mentors (31) affiliated with Family Medicine Academy, Qassim in September 2022. Data was collected using a semi structured questionnaire. Data was analyzed with SPSS. Results: A total of 60 mentees and 31 mentors participated. The majority of mentees opined that the mean number of mentor meetings was 2.76 per year. Mentees perceptions about clear objectives in their meeting was 71.7%, the same percentage (70%) mentioned as opportunity to discuss strengths and weaknesses in the mentor meeting. Sevety-seven percent of the mentors opined that mentee achieved their set targets large extent to fully. The mentees mean overall satisfaction and standard deviation about the mentorship program was 7.5 ± 2.72, mentors overall satisfaction was reported 7.8 ± 1.7 out of 10. Conclusions: Based on the findings, mentors and mentees were overall satisfied with the mentorship program. But, Mentees’ perceptions about social or psychological problems and professional development agreed was nearly fifty percent only. On the other hand, mentors had concerns related to the keenness of mentees for the mentorship meeting. There is a need to focus on these domains in the forthcoming mentorship programs.
Background: Since year 2000 onwards, there is tremendous improvement in the areas of Dental education and also considerable improvement in E-learning. The current generation of students as well as the faculty mostly rely on the electronic gadgets, apps and most of the information is available on mobile with internet connection, which is feasible in developed countries educational institutes perspectives. Aim of the present study is to evaluate the YouTube usage, importance in the clinical procedures and attitude towards learning among the study participants. Methodology: A cross sectional study was conducted among the dental students of college dentistry, Qassim university during the period from February 2022 to December 2022. A sample of 92 dental students were participated and questionnaire distributed through google form. Data entered and cleaned with Statistical package social sciences (SPSS). Chi square test applied for the categorical variables in the study. Results: In the present study, about 92 dental students participated and questionnaire distributed to 130 students. In the current study, 52.2% were females and two thirds of students (66.3%) in the age group of 22-24 years. About 93.5% were using YouTube more than 5 years and 73.9% of them using you tube daily. Nearly 84.2% of 3rd year students used restorative procedure. There was statistically significant association was observed between YouTube users and types of dental procedures (P<0.05). Conclusions : Based on the study findings, majority of the dental students were using YouTube. Of which, majority 3rd year students used YouTube for restorative procedure and their choice of use depends upon their necessity, understanding and also opined that their faculty to be posted their YouTube videos on the social media to get genuinely and credibility.
Background: As per the ministry of health statistics, among the non communicable diseases, cancers prevalence is increasing globally as well as in Saudi Arabia specially Colorectal Cancer (CRC). In our regular primary health care (PHC) practice, we also observed some patients with spectrum of various clinical presentation of gastro intestinal symptoms among adults. Methodology: A cross sectional study was conducted among the PHC attendees during the period from June 2021 to December 2022 among 379 sample. Data entered and analysed by using SPSS. Statistical tests like simple proportions, for categorical analysis chi square test, risk factors association with CRC, logistic regression analysis was applied. Results: In the current study, nearly fifty percent (50.9%) of the participants were having good CRC knowledge about common symptoms. Close to two thirds of the study population (69.5%) presented their perceptions as dietary factors, fast foods and oily foods for the causes of CRC. Also, 2/3rds (68.6%) were having knowledge about screening test for CRC. Regression analysis applied and shown significant association observed between risk factors of fast-food consumption, daily red meat consumption and physical inactivity with CRC knowledge respectively (P -0.026, 0.012 and 0.004). Conclusions: Based on the results, relatively less CRC knowledge among the primary health care attendees. Nearly one third (35.6%) of people to undergo FOBE test for CRC. There is a need to increase awareness about risk factors and screening of CRC and reinforcement of existing awareness program. Need further studies to substantiate the present study findings in our population.
Background: In the recent past, there is increase demand of alternative and complimentary medicine (CAM) use increased among the patients globally.During our regular practice at Primary health care centres (PHCC), some patients are requesting us to prescribe and discussing about certain products of CAM. This could be due to advertisements on the television and information from other sources. The present study was planned with the objective of opinions, interest and practice of physicians about CAM use for their patients. Methodology: A cross sectional study was conducted among the physicians working at the PHCC and all family medicine residents enrolled at Family Medicine academy. During COVID 19 pandemic, questionnaire distributed through google forms and 261 physicians responded. Data was analysed with statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). Necessary statistical tests were applied. Results: In the present study, female physicians were 85%. About 75% of PHC physicians up to the age of 30 years and mean age were 29 years. In the current study, about 61.7% were prescribing CAM to their patients at PHCC and also observed 40.6% were prescribed CAM for the self purpose. There was no significant association was observed with CAM practice with gender, qualification of physician, position of physician, marital status and nationality (P>0.05). Conclusions: There was increased use of CAM to their patients in the study. One of the limitations of the study was type of CAM product, duration and frequency such product details not taken. Need further studies are required to substantiate the present study findings.
