The present study has investigated the microstructural, tribological and mechanical properties of three coatings (Cr 2 O 3 , NiAl and Cr 2 O 3 -bond coating NiAl), obtained by atmospheric plasma spraying on medium carbon steel. More precisely, the effect of the bond coating (NiAl) on the properties of ceramic coating is investigated. The results showed that NiAl bond coating improved Cr 2 O 3 adhesion with the substrate on the order of 25%. Furthermore, the application of NiAl bond coating enhanced the quality of Cr 2 O 3 coating surface morphology (reducing the percentage of pores), increased the microhardness (on the order of y100 HV300) and improved the wear behaviour.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
