Information Literacy is one of the focus areas of research conducted by researchers from different cross-sections of disciplines. The present bibliometric study conducted based on scholarly communications on the subject within 31 years during 1989-2020 has revealed many clues. For the study, from the Web of Science database, bibliometrix R-package Biblioshiny and VOSviewer could generate 1764 documents from different 357 sources having a total of 35558 references. The study's findings indicate that 2016 is the most contributing year for Information Literacy related publications. The USA tops in the aspects of most productive country and most cited country of the publication. At the same time, M. Pinto is found to contribute a maximum of 37 publications. Of the top 20 scholarly journals, 'Journal of Academic Librarianship' is the highest in communicating such articles with 166 numbers.
The ShodhGangotri of INFLIBNET Centre is a repository of research synopses of Indian Universities. The present study applying webometric method analyzes the contents of the same available till 31 st July, 2019. The analysis of the data throws light on many aspects on the research trends of Indian Universities. A total of 6574submitted synopses have been uploaded in the repository covering 34 different disciplines or subjects by 449 Departments of 70 Indian Universities. There is a wide range of differences in the Supervisor and Scholar ratio of the research while 1205 faculty members are guiding a single scholar, on the other hand a single supervisor is also found to guide 27 scholars. Guiding 16 to 27 scholars by a single supervisor is also observed. The result gives current research trends and its progress in various Indian Universities. Being the only Research in Progress Database of Indian Universities ShodhGangotri can play a crucial role to avoid duplication of research and to let the researchers know about the general trends of research in various fields of study in the country.
Open access initiatives (OAI) have gained momentum and have been accepted by the academic communities of the world. The role of libraries in promoting open access culture in universities is much more crucial in many ways. In the present study, the university library system in Northeast India has been assessed about the OAI taken up by them. The same has enabled the authors to ascertain many clues of the university systems, services, facilities, establishment of institutional repositories, supporting open access publications, conducting advocacy programs, and many others as a sign of engagement in this movement. The findings of the study have shown that almost 90% of the university libraries of the region have supported the open access movement and some of the universities have also started to establish digital institutional repositories using DSpace software.
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to analyze the digital marketing initiatives taken up by the central universities of northeast India through their library websites to promote the use of their information products and services by their clienteles.Methodology: For the present study, websites of nine central universities of northeast India have been surveyed for evaluation. All features of the websites have been examined. A checklist has been designed for collecting the necessary data. To analyze the results, simple statistical calculations were used.Findings: It is found that the majority of the library websites (66.69%) have a direct link to the parent website, and they provide general information, such as library rules, library team/staff, about library, library staff directory, timing, library notices, news, and events. With regard to language, 77.77% of the websites used both English and Hindi languages. The majority of them also provide information about services such as OPAC, internet access, circulation, membership, current awareness service, reprographic service, anti-plagiarism, library orientation, and newsletter. However, the University Libraries under study are yet to exploit the full potential of the website as the clienteles are lagging behind the effective use of the same. The use of social networking sites by the libraries, as the study shows, is also not much encouraging.Research limitations: The paper is limited to nine central university libraries of northeast India. Researchers in the future can take up other problems associated with private and state-owned universities in this regard.Practical implications: Central universities of northeast India must come forward to improve their library websites featuring other portals and provisions to enhance in marketing their information products and other services in the digital environment to serve the community effectively.
