Resumen: Los discursos que circulan en los medios de comunicación son fundamentales para la construcción de la opinión pública, en la medida que informan sobre los hechos y opiniones relevantes de la vida social. En este sentido, la libre circulación de la opinión es esencial en una democracia. En esta investigación describimos el flujo de opinión sobre un tema de interés público en diversos géneros periodísticos para comprender su contribución al debate público. Entendemos por flujo de opinión el conjunto de puntos de vista que circulan en el espacio público en torno a un mismo tópico. A diario, la prensa publica las opiniones de periodistas, expertos, académicos, políticos u otros actores sociales que escriben directamente en los diarios o son citados por otros, accediendo de esa forma al espacio público. Un tema sensible para la opinión pública chilena ha sido el cuestionamiento al sistema previsional que, por su complejidad y amplitud, nos ofrece una buena oportunidad para el estudio de la participación de la prensa en el debate público. La prensa matutina nacional chilena reúne a 4 diarios que tienen circulación en papel: El Mercurio, La Tercera, Las Últimas Noticias y La Cuarta. Para cumplir nuestro objetivo, trabajamos sobre un corpus de 244 textos de diversos géneros periodísticos recolectado durante 30 días, circunscritos a dos eventos de protesta contra el sistema de pensiones que marcaron la agenda social y mediática. La comunicación emotiva es el uso motivado y estratégico de las emociones en el discurso. Debido a su protagonismo en la construcción de sentido sobre los asuntos públicos, resulta interesante explorar cómo se utiliza en los medios de comunicación, específicamente en la columna de opinión, uno de los géneros periodísticos en que más se reconoce su uso. Dado esto, en esta investigación, de carácter cualitativo, nos preguntamos: ¿cuál es el uso de la emoción que hacen expertos económicos en columnas de opinión publicadas en dos periódicos chilenos? El corpus estuvo constituido por 30 columnas de opinión en el área de la economía, publicadas entre 2013 y 2019 en los principales periódicos chilenos: El Mercurio y La Tercera. Las columnas estaban relacionadas con 7 eventos que marcaron la agenda social y mediática del debate previsional en Chile. Los resultados evidencian un despliegue emocional estratégico que busca calmar las críticas a las administradoras de fondos de pensiones y preocupar a los lectores respecto a las propuestas de modificaciones emanadas tanto del Gobierno como del movimiento social. Esto implica que los diarios, a través de sus columnistas, han desarrollado un discurso emotivo coherente con el proyecto de influencia social que orienta suparticipación en el espacio público.
