A partir del siglo III los emperadores romanos hubieron de hacer frente a la crisis por la que atravesaba el Estado. Uno de los aspectos más endebles del sistema era el económico y, para solucionarlo, los emperadores llevaron a cabo una serie de reformas monetarias; la que perduraría en el tiempo –más allá de la desintegración del Estado Romano a mediados del siglo V- sería la efectuada por Constantino I, continuadora de otra reforma anterior liderada por Diocleciano. Este cambio en el sistema monetario estuvo vigente en nuestra Península, ya bajo el dominio visigodo, hasta bien entrado el siglo VII. Asimismo, se mantuvo también en el Imperio Bizantino, heredero del Imperio Romano y posicionado con fuerza en el otro extremo del Mediterráneo. En el estudio se analizan las semejanzas y diferencias de ambos sistemas monetarios –el visigodo y el bizantino-, haciendo particular referencia a la acuñación de sólidos. Su acuñación tomó como modelo el sistema monetario romano creado a partir de la reforma de Constantino I.
En el artículo se pone en relación el contexto histórico y político que dio lugar al casamiento del infante Luis de Borbón y Farnesio (hijo de Felipe V e Isabel de Farnesio) con María Teresa de Vallabriga y Rozas —aristócrata española— y la serie documental que se produjo a causa de tal situación. La realización de dicho enlace, de carácter morganático, se llevó a cabo con el permiso del rey Carlos III, para lo que este expidió una Real Pragmática en la que se regulaban —desde entonces en adelante— este tipo de uniones. Posteriormente, otra serie de disposiciones legislativas y normas completaron este marco procedimental, legislando sobre aspectos diversos relacionados con esta situación.En el texto se analizan los tipos de documentos que se produjeron como consecuencia del incumplimiento de esta normativa, el corpus jurídico al que esta situación dio lugar, así como el trámite que estableció la Pragmática de Carlos III a la hora de proceder con este tipo de uniones matrimoniales.
