El esófago con atresia no se forma adecuadamente como un tubo, que es la forma normal que debería tener, sino que existe una separación en algún punto de éste, originando la creación de dos segmentos separados, los cuales no se comunican el uno con el otro. Es por ello que los alimentos no pueden viajar de la boca al estómago. La presente investigación contiene información de revisión bibliográfica de tipo documental, ya que vamos a ocupar de temas planteados a nivel teórico como es la Atresia esofágica, diagnóstico, tratamiento y cuidados post quirúrgicos. La técnica para la recolección de datos está constituida por materiales impresos y electrónicos estos últimos como Google Académico, Scielo, PubMed, entre otros. La atresia esofágica es una patología que se caracteriza más que todo como una malformación congénita, es decir, que se nace con ella, por ello su incidencia suele ser muy baja, el único tratamiento disponible es el quirúrgico que repara el esófago, el diagnostico generalmente se realiza por medio de ecografía durante el embarazo en la mayoría de los casos y con resonancia magnética fetal, como siempre en cualquier patología médica, el diagnostico oportuno y el manejo correcto es el que va a determinar una baja mortalidad y recuperación optima del paciente. Como se detecta antes o incluso después de nacer los cuidados de enfermería son cruciales para evitar las complicaciones y mantener los valores vitales de los pacientes, aparte que la enfermería tiene un rol intermedio entre el médico y los familiares, en cuanto a la transmisión de comunicaciones y entendimiento.
