We present a rare case of crusted scabies in an human T‐cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV‐1) infected woman prior to onset of adult T‐cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATL). We highlight the importance of this rare form of scabies as a prediagnostic sign of ATL, requiring high suspicion and monitoring of possible symptoms for early detection of ATL.
Occupational Hand Dermatitis (OHD) is a socially significant health problem and one of the most frequently recognized occupational disease with a prevalence up to 30% in some occupations of increased risk like metal workers, hairdressers, cleaners and healthcare workers. Wet work and chemical agents alters normal structure and functions of the skin. It may be regarded as a mild dermatological problem. However, in some people it lasts for years in severe forms that can have a great impact on daily life and also restrict someone's ability to work.OHD accounts for more than 80 per cent of contact dermatitis cases. Some studies have indicated that OHD has considerable impact on quality of life and may lead to depression. OHD is characterized by a chronic course with relapses upon contact with allergens or irritants. Management is complicated by lack of effective and reliable diagnosis.
Letter to the Editor-Observation Introduction Erythema ab igne is now more commonly related to heating pads, water bottles, infrared lamps and laptop computer use with skin contact. Heat damages superficial skin vessels leading to vasodilatation and leakage of blood and deposition of hemosiderin that presents in a net form. Any surface of the body is susceptible but mostly lower limbs, lower back and abdomen areas are affected. Case Report A 8-year-old boy presented with a four month history of dark brown pigmentation only to the anterior aspects of right and left thighs, symetrically (Fig 1). The distribution was reticular, the lesions were not blanchable and there were no symptoms. There was no need of biopsy since clinical diagnosis of erythema ab igne was obvious. His mother mentioned the fact of him using laptop positioned atop thighs (Fig. 2). Using his anterior thighs to prop up his laptop-and she added the fact that he used to work on his computer in that position several hours and every day.
