This study was conducted in 2018, under open field conditions in Adıyaman Province of Turkey to determine the effects of farm manure, vermicompost and plant growth regulators on yield and some fruit quality parameter of watermelon. Matured farm manure, vermicompost and three different plant growth regulators (Crop-Set, Endoroots and ISR-2000) were used to compare with control (not fertilizers applied) application. Vermicompost, farm manure, Endoroots, ISR-2000 and Crop-Set were applied to the plants at 150 kg, 2 tons, 250 g, 60 cc and 90 cc da-1 doses, respectively. The highest yield result was obtained from Endoroots application (11.630 tons da-1). Fruit weight varied between 2.93 (control) kg and 5.01 kg (vermicompost). Higher results were observed from vermicompost application for fruit weight, fruit width, fruit height, phenolic. Total Soluble Solids (TSS) was recorded statistically significant for Endoroots application. Applied plant growth regulators, farm manure and vermicompost fertilizers had significant effects on pomological and phenological characteristics of watermelon under semi-arid conditions. The highest results have been determined from Endoroots and vermicompost applications. As a result of this study, Endoroots (250 g da-1) and vermicompost (150 kg da-1) fertilizers can be concluded as a beneficial application for watermelon cultivation.

One of the most effective means in the combating climate change and desertification is soil organic carbon (SOC) management. However, land use puts a high pressure to fragile SOC pools particularly in semi-arid environments where SOC decomposition rate is high due to low soil moisture. Therefore, at higher elevations of Mediterranean Basin with cooler temperature SOC is higher than the coastal plains due to the better soil moisture contents. Agricultural pressure on highlands has increased in recent years because of the relatively low water requirement of crops. The purpose of this study is to analyze and determine the SOC dynamics in relation to the variations of soil physical and chemical characteristics from different elevations, ranging from 64 meters to 756 meters at semi-arid Mediterranean climate. SOC revealed decreases versus altitude increases that varied from 24.7 to 38.7 t ha-1 with a correlation coefficient of 0.527. The main driver of decreasing SOC by elevation is most probably displacing of fine particles from surface horizons by accelerated erosion at sloping and cultivated lands of higher altitudes. As a result, it is necessary to focus both on the plant pattern along with land management techniques for enhancing soil organic matter in agricultural production for enhancing SOC at higher elevations.

Öz Meyve bahçelerinde verimli ve kaliteli üretim yapabilmek doğru gübreleme programına bağlıdır. Çalışma, toprak işleme ve gübreleme yapılmayan meyve bahçelerinin beslenme durumu ve toprak bitki ilişkilerini ortaya koymak amacı ile 2019 Nisan-Eylül ayları arasında Adıyaman Üniversitesi uygulama bahçelerinde yürütülmüştür. Gübreleme programının hazırlanması da toprak ve yaprak analizlerine bağlı olduğu için yaprak ve toprak örnekleri alınarak gübre uygulanmayan meyve ağaçlarının beslenme durumları ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Yaprak örnekleri 2019 Nisan, Mayıs, Haziran, Temmuz, Ağustos ve Eylül aylarında ve toprak örnekleri de Şubat 2019'da alınmıştır. Toprak analizlerinde organik madde içeriği üst toprakta %2.87 bulunurken alt toprakta %2.55 olarak tespit edilmiştir. Makro besin elementlerinden total azot (N), fosfor (P) ve potasyum (K) içerikleri üst toprakta sırasıyla %0.22, 5.3 kgda-1 ve 193.0 kgda-1 olarak ölçülmüş ve yeterli düzeyde bulunmuştur; alt topraklar da sırasıyla %0.24, 9.13 kgda-1 ve 203.05 kgda-1 olarak ölçülmüştür. Yaprak besin elementi (N, P, K, demir (Fe), çinko (Zn), bakır (Cu), mangan (Mn)) ve düzeyleri örnek alma zamanına göre değişen oranlarda bulunurken, bazı bitki besleme noksanlıkları da tespit edilmiştir. Optimum değerler ile karşılaştırıldığında, N için Trabzon hurması, vişne, ayva ve erik türlerinde; P sonuçlarında kayısı, vişne, kiraz, elma ve badem türlerinde; K sonuçlarında da armut, ayva, elma ve erik türlerinde yeterli ve sınırlar içerisinde olduğu bulunmuştur. Mikro besin elementlerinden Fe için; Trabzon hurması, armut, ayva ve elma; Cu değerleri için; Trabzon hurması, kayısı, vişne, ayva ve elma türlerinde; Zn için; Trabzon hurması, armut ve erik türleri; Mn sonuçlarında yine Trabzon hurması, kayısı, kiraz, badem ve erik sonuçlarında yeterli olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
