O tema que nos propomos abordar constitui o núcleo da espiritualidade de São Francisco. A nosso ver, a sua concepção ou imagem de Deus, incluindo o seu modo de se relacionar com Ele, caracteriza fundamentalmente a sua espiritualidade. De fato, toda a sua experiência religiosa parte da sua visão de Deus e encontra em Deus o seu ponto de referência. Nesse sentido, pode-se afirmar que Francisco chegou a ser um verdadeiro teólogo, pois adquiriu uma visão teológica da realidade, isto é, a realidade é vista a partir de um único centro: Deus. A sua visão do mundo e do homem, por exemplo, tem em Deus o seu ponto de referência. O mundo, como conjunto das criaturas, é visto em referência ao Criador o homem, criado à imagem e semelhança de Deus, foi colocado pelo Senhor mesmo em posição de excelência entre as demais criaturas...
