Some key factors for the addressing electronic of plasma display panels are the reduction of power consumption and the control of EMI emissions during driver switching. An usual solution to decrease the power dissipation is to use a AC power supply based on a L, C resonant approach. The STV7801S is the first IC that integrates all the components necessary to implement a resonant AC power supply to drive the columns of a PDP. This circuit is commonly named DPS for Data Power Switch. With an external inductance, the STV7801S circuit charges and discharges the PDP column capacitance to recover over 80% of the energy normally lost in driving the panel capacitance with DC power supply.
Thanks to innovative driving schemes, this new IC automatically adjusts the power supply and voltage pre‐charge as required, during the whole panel life span. Embedded OTP memory allows various adjustments, such as white balance, to be easily programmed and internal parameters can be adjusted and stored for greater precision. Perfectly fitting application requirements, this IC contributes to the improvement of display quality, reliability, and the reduction of manufacturing cost.
