Resumo O estudo anatômico foliar em plantas arbóreas favorece a compreensão da morfologia dos vegetais, tanto para a formação acadêmica nas licenciaturas, quanto como parte do currículo básico do ensino médio proposto pela Base Nacional Curricular Comum. Além de atribuir importância à natureza e seus recursos, faz-se necessário entender a vida em sua diversidade de formas e níveis de organização, sendo que o ensino de botânica não poderia ficar a margem deste processo, considerando que os vegetais se encontram na base de todas as relações ecológicas. Por isso, é de fundamental importância agregar novas metodologias que possibilitem maior agilidade e uma aprendizagem de real significância que colaborará amenizando os desafios do processo de ensino de biologia na subárea da botânica. Neste estudo objetiva-se desenvolver nos educandos habilidades e competências a partir de uma significativa aprendizagem com o estudo anatômico foliar de Ficus sp. presente no Campus Teresina Central do Instituto Federal do Piauí, a fim de se identificar as principais estruturas morfoanatômicas, seu funcionamento e relações ecológicas, de forma prática e construtiva. Este trabalho circunscreve um estudo sobre o desenvolvimento de metodologias com a utilização da coleta e da microscopia ótica, pautado na BNCC e em referenciais bibliográficos. O recolhimento dos depoimentos de alguns dos discentes participantes, escolhidos de forma aleatória, foi realizado para verificarmos as contribuições dessa metodologia. Isso mostrou-se de grande importância para a pesquisa visto que, aplicação de métodos, como coleta e análise de estruturas vegetais nos cursos de licenciatura em ciências biológicas, mostrou a relevância de uma metodologia que proporcione conhecimentos concretos, atribuindo uma aprendizagem com significado aos professores em formação e incentivando-os a levar tais métodos para aplicação com seus futuros alunos, revelando assim, que as ciências da natureza estão presentes no cotidiano, são investigativas e dinâmicas, facilitando, não só o processo de ensino como também de aprendizagem, tornando-o mais prazeroso e despertando o interesse pela botânica.
