Microblogging emerged as one of the activities enabled by “Web 2.0” during the first decade of the twenty‐first century. It can be seen as a particular type of “online social networking,” and it is a form of blogging, with specific parameters. The defining feature of microblogging is that microblogs are short messages sent via the Internet, such as a short sentence, or a link to a website, an image, or video. No doubt one reason for the popularity of microblogging is mobility, with applications suited to mobile devices; the short messages can be posted and delivered via SMS (Short Message Service) on a mobile/cellphone, as well as via the respective websites.
