This paper unravels the role played by charge transfer to and from Ag nanoparticles in their plasmonic catalytic activities.

Hybrid materials in which reduced graphene oxide (rGO) is decorated with Au nanoparticles (rGO-Au NPs) were obtained by the in situ reduction of GO and AuCl4(-)(aq) by ascorbic acid. On laser excitation, rGO could be oxidized as a result of the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) excitation in the Au NPs, which generates activated O2 through the transfer of SPR-excited hot electrons to O2 molecules adsorbed from air. The SPR-mediated catalytic oxidation of p-aminothiophenol (PATP) to p,p'-dimercaptoazobenzene (DMAB) was then employed as a model reaction to probe the effect of rGO as a support for Au NPs on their SPR-mediated catalytic activities. The increased conversion of PATP to DMAB relative to individual Au NPs indicated that charge-transfer processes from rGO to Au took place and contributed to improved SPR-mediated activity. Since the transfer of electrons from Au to adsorbed O2 molecules is the crucial step for PATP oxidation, in addition to the SPR-excited hot electrons of Au NPs, the transfer of electrons from rGO to Au contributed to increasing the electron density of Au above the Fermi level and thus the Au-to-O2 charge-transfer process.

Nanomaterials properties are deeply dependent on several features, being easily tuned according to its composition, shape, and dimensionality. Graphene, a two-dimensional (2D) material has outstanding properties that may be tailored by turning its shape to 3D conformations, similar to crumpled paper ball-like structures. Thus, some drawbacks related to graphene restacking could be avoided, besides enlightening a way to explore the properties of graphene-based materials. Herein, we synthesize crumpled graphene structures fully decorated by manganese ferrite (MnFe2O4) nanoparticles in one single step. The samples were produced using an aerosol-assisted capillary compression process and the crumpled paper-ball-like shape of the composites could be adjusted to incorporate increasing amounts of manganese ferrite nanoparticles. We explored two different applications for the obtained materials: as an electrochemical sensor for hydrogen peroxide, and electrochemical supercapacitors. As a proof-of-concept, we synthesized bare manganese ferrite and a composite of flat rGO:MnFe2O4, which assisted us to certify that the best performance is related to the synergistic effect between components, the ratio between them, and the proper shape of the composite.

RESUMO -O grafeno, uma das formas alotrópicas do carbono, tem sido considerado o futuro da tecnologia em todo o mundo. A preparação de materiais derivados de grafeno tem merecido destaque nos últimos anos, tendo em vista as excelentes propriedades mecânicas, térmicas e elétricas desses materiais. Este projeto utiliza um filme de óxido de grafeno na preparação de filmes nanocompósitos contendo hexacionaferrato de ferro (III), conhecido como azul da Prússia. Através do presente projeto pretende-se desenvolver uma rota inovadora de preparação desse tipo de nanocompósito, através do método interfacial, com modulação das propriedades através do controle de morfologia, tamanho e dispersão do azul da Prússia sobre as folhas de óxido de grafeno. Os filmes obtidos foram caracterizados através das técnicas de espectroscopia por energia dispersiva de raios X (EDS ou EDX), técnicas de microscopia eletrônica de varredura e espectroscopia Raman. Essas técnicas mostraram a eficiência do método interfacial para obtenção dos filmes e revelaram características importantes para os diferentes materiais preparados, objetivando sua aplicação como sensor para diferentes analitos, além de componente ativo em dispositivos ópticos.

RESUMO -Neste trabalho sintetizaram-se materiais nanoestruturados do tipo óxido de grafeno reduzido/azul da Prússia pelo método interfacial, através de soluções bifásicas, no qual se obteve filmes homogêneos, que foram caracterizados por espectroscopia Raman, constatando bandas características de compostos de carbono, com hibridizações sp 2 e sp 3 , além de bandas relacionadas ao azul da Prússia, atestando a formação do material nanocompósito. A atividade redox do azul da Prússia também foi estudada, através da análise dos pares redox presentes nas medidas de voltametria cíclica, com a presença de quatro picos característicos do AP. A análise das imagens de microscopia eletrônica de varredura mostraram uma morfologia esférica das nanopartículas de AP, e que as mesmas estão dispostas entre as folhas de óxido de grafeno reduzido. INTRODUÇÃO GrafenoO grafeno (Figura 1), nome da monocamada de grafite e do mais recente alótropo de carbono, consiste em uma rede bidimensional constituída por uma estrutura hexagonal de átomos de carbono, com hibridização sp² e espessura monoatômica. Sendo assim, é considerado a unidade básica fundamental que forma as estruturas de outros materiais de carbono, como os fulerenos, nanotubos e fibras de carbono.Por suas propriedades únicas, o grafeno é considerado mais resistente que o diamante. Assim, podem-se citar propriedades destacadas para esse material, tais como a alta resistência mecânica, elevada transparência e flexibilidade. Além disso, é considerado um semicondutor de band gap zero, pois sua banda de valência "toca" a banda de condução, permitindo que o material tenha propriedades condutoras, mas difere de metais comuns por não possuir elétrons livres na banda de condução, visto isso apresenta certa condutividade elétrica. (Wang et al, 2010). Um dos métodos de síntese mais utilizados para o grafeno é a esfoliação das folhas de grafite por oxidação com utilização de ácidos e oxidantes fortes, como HNO 3 , KMnO 4 , H 2 O 2.
