ResumenObjetivo: Evaluar el estado del arte del manejo, curso y diagnóstico del carcinoma de células renales. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó una búsqueda sistemática de la literatura de artículos originales y de revisión a través de PubMed y, se incluyeron guías internacionales con el fin de determinar los aspectos más importantes referentes a la epidemiología, diagnóstico, manejo y seguimiento del carcinoma de células renales. Resultados. Se incluyeron 45 artículos originales, todos relacionados con el carcinoma de células renales. Conclusión: Los diferentes avances imagenelógicos han permitido una mayor resolución espacial permitiendo mejor caracterización de las lesiones renales para un mejor abordaje y planeamiento quirúrgico. Además existen nuevas terapias para el tratamiento de pacientes con carcinoma de células renales que obligan a desarrollar nuevas estrategias de seguimiento y evaluación de respuesta a la terapia.
