Palavras chave: câncer, granulação citoplasmática, mastócito Cytological classification of malignancy of mastocytomas in dogsABSTRACT. Mastocytoma is the cutaneous tumor that affects most dogs. Cytopathology is an examination that aims to defer infectious processes of neoplastic processes. Histopathology differentiates mastocytomas in different degrees. However, there is a need for a standardized cytopathological examination for the differentiation of mastocytomas into benign or malignant ones. The objective of this study was to demonstrate the capacity of differentiation of benign and malignant mastocytomas by cytopathological examination, comparing with the histopathology result. We used 19 dogs with cutaneous nodules, diagnosed with mastocytoma. Cytological and histological slides were evaluated separately for no influence on diagnosis. The cytological examination demonstrated to be able to demonstrate different degrees of malignancy, being limited to the nuclear criteria and of invasiveness.
This study aimed to report the hematological and biochemical changes caused by conventional and metronomic chemotherapies, using vincristine sulfate to treat canine Transmissible Venereal Tumor (TVT). Twelve dogs were selected, six of them for the group receiving conventional chemotherapy (G1), and six dogs for the group receiving metronomic chemotherapy (G2). The G1 group received vincristine sulfate once a week at the dose of 0.75mg/m² until the tumor had disappeared with treatment, and the G2 group was treated with vincristine sulfate three times a week at the dose of 0.25mg/m2 until the tumor had disappeared. Before and after chemotherapy treatment, hematological and biochemical blood tests were performed to evaluate the main alterations caused by both chemotherapeutic models. Dogs undergoing conventional chemotherapy had significant leukocyte changes (p<0.05), causing neutropenia and leukopenia. In dogs undergoing metronomic chemotherapy, leukocytes remained within the reference range. Half of the dogs in group G1 had normochromic, normocytic anemia. The only biochemical alteration observed was the increase of urea in group G2. Thus, metronomic chemotherapy for the treatment of TVT with vincristine sulfate proved to be an excellent method for treatment, with fewer adverse effects, especially in maintaining the leukogram of dogs within normal range and reducing the number of anemia in animals during treatment.
ABSTRACT. The objective of this work was to report a case of a dog naturally infected by Leishmania spp. Unclassified and unreported clinical behavior. The 4-year-old male, without a defined breed, was treated with a history of ulceration without a middle third of the tongue, measuring around 2 cm in diameter, with appearance 5 months ago. The cytopathological examination was determined for a vision of amastigote forms of Leishmania spp, being possible the diagnosis of leishmaniasis.
AbstractIntoxications in domestic animals is increasing, especially by toxic products such as rodenticides, sanitizers, medications, pesticides and plants. Many pet owners are unaware of the dangers of these products and the health risks of their animals. The objective of this study is to report a case of a canine spontaneously intoxicated by alkaline degreasing detergent (SOLUPAN). A 1-year-old mixed-breed bitch showed clinical signs suggestive of intoxication after ingesting SOLUPAN. Animal was referred to the veterinary service for clinical and laboratory examination, which showed intense hepatic alteration and severe anemia. A symptomatic therapeutic protocol was established and it was possible to totally reverse the clinical condition of the patient.
Palavras chave: proteínas de fase aguda, inflamação, tumor mamário canino, biomarcadores Evaluation of systemic inflammatory response induced by ductal carcinoma in situ in dogs ABSTRACT. In breast tumors, inflammatory changes are common, mainly caused by neoplasias that metastasize. This work aims to evaluate the concentration of C Reactive Protein (CRP), correlating the alterations of total proteins and albumin in dogs with ductal carcinoma in situ and to demonstrate the hematological alterations found. Thirteen dogs diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ were screened by cytopathological examination and confirmed by histopathology. It is concluded that CRP is an acute phase protein that rises independently of total proteins and albumin and hematological changes are of little relevance for the diagnosis of ductal carcinoma in situ.
