El siguiente artículo desarrolla la comprensión de la compasión desde la perspectiva de dos filósofos contemporáneos: M. Nussbaum y E. Levinas. Exponiendo sus planteamientos, la autora pretende hacer dialogar la filosofía neo aristotélica con la filosofía de la alteridad, para luego presentar su propio balance crítico. Desde la teoría de las emociones como «levantamientos geológicos del pensar» de Nussbaum y la «metaética» levinasiana acerca de la responsabilidad ilimitada por el otro vulnerable, se elabora el pensamiento de cada autor sobre la compasión como característica esencialmente humana y humanizadora.
A muchas de las víctimas de violaciones a los derechos humanos por la dictadura cívico-militar en Chile aún se les debe verdad, reconocimiento, justicia y reparación por parte del Estado y la sociedad civil. En ese sentido, si bien la insistencia en las garantías de no repetición –el “nunca más”– es casi transversal en el discurso sociopolítico de todas las sociedades contemporáneas que en su pasado reciente sufrieron represión o violencia política, las instancias institucionales de reparación no han sido igualmente transversales. Desde esta perspectiva, la siguiente contribución propone tres reflexiones conceptuales a partir de la experiencia chilena. En primer lugar, se pretende establecer definiciones contextualizadas de dos conceptos clave de las políticas hacia el pasado: reparación y justicia restaurativa. Luego se desarrollará una reflexión acerca de la importancia de la verdad, el reconocimiento y la justicia, frente al trauma producido por las violaciones específicas a la integridad de la persona perpetradas en la vulneración de los derechos humanos. Finalmente, se profundizará en el tema de la aún urgente necesidad –de la víctima y de la sociedad en su conjunto– de instancias de verdad, reconocimiento y justicia socio-institucionales que conduzcan a la más auténtica reparación posible.

La expresión adulto vulnerable ha surgido, en relación con el abuso eclesial, como definición de ciertas víctimas mayores de edad. Admitiendo que el reconocimiento de estas en la Iglesia católica es un avance hacia la reparación del daño perpetrado, el uso de la expresión adultos vulnerables para describirlas es ambiguo, y analizado desde la perspectiva de la antropología teológica, incorrecto. Redefiniendo la categoría ético-antropológica de vulnerabilidad como una característica humana a la vez inherente y situacional, queda claro que todas las personas son sujetos potenciales de abusos.
