This paper applies Bayesian methodologies to characterize the legislative behavior of the Colombian Senate during the period 2010-2014. The analysis is carried out through the plenary roll call votes of this legislative chamber. In addition, parliamentary electoral behavior is operationalized by implementing the onedimensional standard Bayesian ideal point estimator via the Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithms. The results contribute mainly to two points: political space dimensionality and the identification of pivot legislators. The pattern revealed by the estimated ideal points suggests a latent non-ideological trait (oppositionnon-opposition) underlying the vote of deputies in the Senate. Thus, in addition to providing empirical evidence for a better understanding of legislative policy in Colombia during the period under analysis, this work also offers methodological and theoretical tools to guide the analysis of roll call vote data in contexts of unbalanced parliaments (as opposed to the U.S. parliament), taking the particular case of the Colombian Senate as a reference.
Abstract:In this study the authors analyze three texts used to teach calculus in high school, with the aim of accounting the treatment given in each of the functions defined in pieces, to identify the advantages or disadvantages of these different proposals. The description is made based on the following variables: Introduction to piecewise function, formalization, examples and proposed exercises, relationship of the concept to other concepts, motivation and learning objectives. It is expected that the results presented in this article become a starting point for reflection on the contributions and limitations of the texts in the teaching and learning of mathematical concepts.Palabras clave: función definida a trozos, descripción, texto escolar, representación, ejemplo y ejercicio.
TED AbstractThis paper is a partial result of a research project associated to a Mathematics Didactics research group at Universidad Pedagógica Nacional. It has to do with the Learning and Teaching of Geometry field. The paper shows an example of the possibility to address the proof in the school context. In this sense, it presents information on the actions of a group of three-school-adult students involved in conjecturation and proof process of proving activity -a didactical construct by the AE • G group-in a geometry class in which Cabri -a dynamic geometry software-is used. To describe that involvement, both the proof process and the phases proposed by Boero (1999) were considered for the production of a theorem. Finally, it is said that the categories of analysis to interpret the students' activity when they face a geometric problem, are based on these phases.
