redescription and distribution of Latrodectus geometricus in Uruguay (Araneae: Theridiidae). Biota Neotrop. 13(1): http:// www.biotaneotropica.org.br/v13n1/en/abstract?short-communication+bn02813012013Abstract: This study provides the first accurate records of Latrodectus geometricus C. L. Koch, 1841 for Uruguay and extends the known distribution of this species to the Southeastern region of South America. Data and figures of the genitalic morphology for the recognition of the species and natural history in this country are indicated. In Uruguay L. geometricus was mainly restricted to urban areas at the west of this country and it is associated with locations with high human activity.
The male of Latonigena auricomis Simon, 1893 is described for the first time and the female is redescribed. New records are provided for Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. Notes on the natural history and a potential distribution model of the species are presented in the Neotropical Region.
Cleruchoides noackae (Hymenoptera: Mymaridae), native to Australia, is the most promising biological control agent for Thaumastocoris peregrinus (Hemiptera: Thaumastocoridae), an exotic Eucalyptus spp. pest in Brazil. The aim of this study was to determine the courtship behaviour, mating and oviposition of unmated or mated C. noackae females parasitizing T. peregrinus eggs utilizing the same rearing system used in biological control programmes in Brazil. The mating behaviour of eleven C. noackae unmated couples was observed and the time taken for males and females to find each other in polystyrene vials and the duration and number of copulations were recorded. Ten unmated or mated females were placed individually in vials with 10 T. peregrinus eggs each, and oviposition behaviour, percentage of eggs inserted and parasitized, viability and sex ratio of emerged C. noackae were recorded. This species lacked defined courtship behaviour and mated in less than an hour after adults' emergence. The time spent finding the first host, evaluating and inserting the ovipositor was similar for mated and unmated C. noackae females, as well as the frequency of inserted and parasitized eggs and their viability. Mated females took less time to find other host eggs and the sex ratio is female-biased. Occurrence of arrhenotokous parthenogenesis was confirmed. The ability of C. noackae to mate and lay eggs in less than one hour and parasitism of T. peregrinus eggs by females can improve the parasitoid mass rearing and biological control of T. peregrinus.
SUMMARYLeptocybe invasa is a recently introduced forest pest, responsible for significant economic loss in Eucalyptus spp. plantations worldwide. The objective of this work is to report its presence in Uruguay, providing data of its distribution and biology. A survey for galls was conducted from 2013 to 2015. The presence of galls was confirmed in 15 out of 35 surveyed points and four out of 157 traps. Eucalyptus benthamii was recorded as a new host. Three periods of emergence were observed. Life cycle was completed only in E. tereticornis, E. camaldulensis and E. grandis.
This paper compares the acoustic analysis of the F0 of a formal and spontaneous corpus of declarative and interrogative sentences issued by twelve informants, women and men uneducated as well as with higher education, from urban and rural areas of two islands of the Canary Islands, El Hierro and Fuerteventura. Our aim is to check whether the results obtained in the formal corpus will also apply to different speech situations. The acoustic analysis is complemented with a phoneticphonemic labeling being part of the Autosegmental-Metric model under the guidelines set out in Dorta (ed. 2013). The fixed or formal corpus consists of a total of 648 sentences, and 546 the spontaneous one. The results underline the presence in the corpus of the same basic declarative intonational pattern in the declarative sentences. In the case of interrogative sentences in El Hierro, it is recorded a rising scheme that disappears in favor of the circumflex characteristic of the languages and dialects of the Canary Islands according to an increasing degree of spontaneity of speech. This pattern is constant at all levels of speech in Fuerteventura.
