O cateter venoso Peripherally Inserted Central Venous Catheter (PICC), é inserido por punção venosa superficial ou profunda, geralmente nos membros superiores, até a veia cava, o que lhe confere funções de cateter central. Ao redor do mundo, tem sido atribuído ao enfermeiro o procedimento de inserção. Até o momento, pouco se sabe sobre experiências dos clientes com PICC. O objetivo foi identificar, na literatura científica, a experiência do cliente com relação ao uso do PICC. Revisão integrativa, realizada na base de dados EBSCO, de artigos publicados nos últimos 10 anos, em inglês ou português, cujo tema central fosse a experiência de pacientes com uso de PICC. A amostra conta com 6 artigos, sendo 1 de 2014, 1 de 2016, 3 de 2017 e 1 de 2019, com autores enfermeiros, médicos e psicólogos, oriundos dos Estados Unidos, Austrália, Inglaterra e Coreia do Sul. As principais experiências relatadas versam sobre alívio pela interrupção de múltiplas punções e liberdade de movimentos que o dispositivo proporciona. Das experiências com conotação negativa, os artigos falam de trombose venosa, medo, dor, vergonha, dificuldades para o banho, para realizar atividades de vida diária e a falta de conhecimento dos profissionais para manusear o dispositivo. Todos os artigos desta revisão possuem baixa força de evidência. Ressalta-se a necessidade de educação continuada nas unidades hospitalares direcionadas à orientação permanente e envolvimento dos clientes em seu cuidado, desde a toma da de decisão baseada em riscos e benefícios, a fim de melhorar suas experiências com o cateter PICC.
