Earl, a type 11 restriction endonuclease, has been isolated from Enterobacteraerogenes (NEB # 450). Earl, an isoschizomer of Ksp 632 1 (1), recognizes the six base non-palindromic sequence 5'CTCTTC3', and cleaves one nucleotide 3' of the 3' cytosine on one strand, and four nucleotides 5' of the 5' guanine on the opposite strand, to generate a three base 5' overhang.
A new type II restriction endonudease, Bsr 1, has been isolated from Bacillus stearotherrophilus (NEB #447). Bsr I recognizes the five base non-palindromic sequence 5' ACTGG 3'.
