A presença de uma aluna surda em uma turma de crianças ouvintes em uma escola pública do Estado do Rio de Janeiro tem instigado um grupo de professoras alfabetizadoras a invistir na realização de uma prática pedagógica que transforme a diferença – que nos constitui – em vantagem pedagógica. A tão proclamada homogeneidade – nos modos de aprender e ensinar, nos modos de lidar com as crianças, nas práticas avaliativas, etc – vem dialogando com a heterogeneidade real de toda sala de aula, possibilitando o aprendizado, nada fácil, de compreender a singularidade e a pluralidade como traços constituintes do processo ensinoaprendizagem. Nesse processo algumas questões têm surgido: como pensar uma escola que, de fato, reconheça as singularidades lingüísticas e culturais dos alunos e alunas? Como reconhecer politicamente a surdez como diferença? É possível compreender e lidar com a diferença, no cotidiano escolar, no sentido de praticar ações pedagógicas que não invistam na nomeação e controle do outro? Ou a mesmidade da escola proíbe a diferença? Esse texto socializa e discute limites e possibilidades de uma ação pesquisadora que procura, com as professoras, investir na construção de um currículo escolar que não seja marcado pelo fracasso e exclusão cotidiana de um número significativo de alunos e alunas das classes populares.
