Con el objetivo de generar alternativas ecológicas para el control de Spodoptera frugiperda en el cultivo de maíz amarillo duro, se realizó un experimento en campo en La Libertad-Perú. Se utilizó diseño experimental completamente al azar (DECA) con 3 tratamientos ecológicos (T3, T4 y T5), un testigo químico (T2) y un testigo cero (T1) con 4 repeticiones. Las variables evaluadas fueron: número de adultos capturados de Spodoptera frugiperda, promedio de masas de huevos por planta, porcentaje de parasitismo, porcentaje de daño, porcentaje de infestación, número de larvas muertas y rendimiento de producción de maíz. Los resultados muestran que, en todas las variables evaluadas, excepto promedio de masas de huevos por planta y porcentaje de huevos parasitados, existe una ligera superioridad del tratamiento químico (T2) con respecto a los tratamientos ecológicos, pero sin ser significativamente diferente a excepción del número de larvas muertas. A su vez los tratamientos ecológicos muestran que aplicados desde la emergencia del maíz pueden controlar el daño que ocasiona Spodoptera frugiperda. De acuerdo a las variables evaluadas y al análisis realizado se concluye que el tratamiento ecológico T3 puede ser una alternativa ecológica para controlar Spodoptera frugiperda en el cultivo de maíz amarillo duro. Con el objetivo de determinar el control biológico del Spodoptera frugiperda en el cultivo de maíz con nematodos entomopatógenos, se propuso realizar pruebas en los invernaderos del Instituto Nacional de Innovación Agraria (INIA), utilizando nematodos entomopatógenos (Heterorhabditis) con cuatro diferentes concentraciones (200, 300, 500 y 750 infectivos juveniles por tratamiento), lo que nos permitió determinar la concentración letal media (CL50-48), porcentaje de mortalidad y daño en plantas de maíz por el cogollero. Mediante análisis Probit al 95% se obtuvo que la CL50-48 para H. bacteriophora fue 182,58 Ijs/larva y para H. sp (nativo), fue 262,68 Ijs/larva. La prueba de Anova y de comparación simultánea de Tuckey encontró diferencias significativas (p = 0,005) entre algunas concentraciones de los tratamientos, estableciendo que el mejor nematodo para combatir las larvas de cogollero fue H. bacteriophora, con el menor porcentaje de daño en planta (53,33%) y la mayor mortalidad (84,44%) en una concentración de 750 Ijs/larva. A comparación del tratamiento con H. sp (nativo), que obtuvo mayor porcentaje de daño en planta (83,33%) y la menor mortalidad (46,66%) en una concentración de 200 Ijs/larva.
Los crisópidos (Insecta: Neuroptera) son controladores biológicos en cultivos de importancia económica, se desconoce las especies presentes en el departamento de Lambayeque. El objetivo fue determinar las especies de crisópidos en zonas maiceras del departamento de Lambayeque, permitiendo un correcto Manejo Integrado de Plagas en el maíz amarillo duro para la Costa Norte del Perú. Se colectaron adultos de crisópidos en cinco hectáreas de maíz amarillo duro de los distritos de Jayanca, Pítipo y Lagunas; mediante muestreo directo y atrayente de luz. En 18 muestreos se colectaron un total de 558 crisopas adultas. Las especies identificadas en fueron: Chrysoperla externa Hagen, C. carnea Stephens, C. assoralis Banks, Ceraeochrysa cincta Schneider, Ceraeochrysa cubana Hagen, Ceraeochrysa valida Banks, Ceraeochrysa sp., Leucochrysa sp. y Plesiochrysa paessleri Navas. Las especies dominantes fueron Chrysoperla externa y Ceraeochrysa cincta con abundancia relativa de 31,91% y 26,6% respectivamente, valores que superan a S (inverso de riqueza) de 14,28% durante la colecta directa de horario diurno, en horario nocturno Chrysoperla carnea también presenta dominancia. Ceraeochrysa cincta es la especie con mayor presencia en los tres distritos, se le considera dominante, por sobrepasar 1/S en todos los muestreos realizados.
