Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi a análise e compreensão do ordenamento do território e criminalidade na cidade da Praia. Analisou-se que a cidade da Praia cresceu de duas formas completamente diferentes, um crescimento de ocupação do território planejado, onde reside população na maioria de classes sociais média e alta, com elevado poder aquisito e compra de terrenos nas áreas planejadas e, um crescimento de ocupação não planejado, onde concentra população de classes sociais mais baixa. Na área de ocupação não planejada, as populações construem os seus assentamentos de acordo com o poder e modelo por si idealizado e na maioria sem levar em conta as normas do ordenamento do território e, tornando um fator preponderante na prática dos diferentes crimes que acontecem na cidade, devido as construções precárias e nas áreas de riscos (encostas, e fundos dos vales), ruas estreitas e mal iluminadas, existência de becos com e sem saídas. De uma forma geral, os resultados obtidos mostram que grande parte dos crimes, principalmente os crimes contra a pessoa, ocorrem nos bairros de ocupação informal, onde há grande deficit de ordenamento do território. Nos bairros de ocupação formal, ocorrem mais os crimes contra o patrimônio. Desta forma, é fundamental assumir de forma consequente o ordenamento do territóiro e qualificação dos territórios urbanos na agenda das politicas públicas de combate a criminalidade e de diminuição da insegurança urbana, numa perspectiva integrada e global de intervenção, onde as diferentes ações e medidas públicas congregam para a resolução dessa problemática.
