RESUMO ABSTRACTGuta-percha; Infi ltração dentária; Obturação do canal radicular.Gutt a-percha; Dental leakage; Root canal obturati on. DESCRITORES KEYWORDS Objecti ve:To evaluate the apical seal of ProTaper™ F3 and F4 cones in canals instrumented with ProTaper™ rotary system. Method: Twenty-six mesiobuccal canals of mesial roots of human mandibular fi rst molars with fully formed apices and curvature degrees between 30º and 45º. The specimens were randomly assigned to four groups: In Group 1 (n = 10), the specimens were fi lled with ProTaper™ F3 gutt a-percha cones; in Group 2 (n = 10), the specimens were fi lled with ProTaper™ F4 gutt a-percha cones. Groups 3 and 4 (n = 3, each) were the positi ve and negati ve controls, respecti vely. Aft er biomechanical preparati on according to the manufacturer's recommendati ons and root canal fi lling with AH-Plus™ sealer using the acti ve lateral condensati on technique, the specimens were immersed up to the cervical third in black Naquin ink during 7 days at 37°C±1° and absolute humidity. They were then secti oned in a buccopingual directi on and were examined with stereomicroscope at 40× magnifi cati on by three independent calibrated examiners.
