ResumenLa Teoría de Recursos y Capacidades (TRC) constituye uno de los principales modelos teóricos que guían la investigación que se realiza en Gestión Estratégica, y su utilización es creciente. Esta tendencia, que inicia en los años ochenta del siglo pasado, se explica por distintos factores, entre los que destacan: la aceptación, dentro de la comunidad académica asociada a la gestión estratégica, de argumentos de corte económico que se utilizan en este enfoque para explicar el comportamiento y desempeño de la empresa, y en particular, sus mecanismos de construcción y mantenimiento de la ventaja competitiva. La TRC considera que la disposición de una ventaja competitiva expresa que la empresa ha alcanzado un nivel de desempeño superior al de sus competidores, situación que le permite obtener beneficios extraordinarios, aún en el largo plazo. En este sentido, construir y sostener una ventaja competitiva constituye la clave del éxito de la empresa y señala la eficiencia con que la empresa utiliza sus recursos y capacidades. MétodoCon el objetivo de verificar que las ideas antes señaladas y en particular que lo señalado por Barney et al., (2011) siga siendo vigente y corresponda con las publicaciones en el ámbito, se realiza un análisis de datos bibliométrico para el periodo 2011-2015 (agosto). Los datos fueron obtenidos de la base Scopus y fueron analizados mediante el uso del software Excel. Mediante este análisis se identifican los principales tópicos de investigación que se tratan en la TRC, así como la tendencia que se sigue en su desarrollo. En este estudio se realiza una primera aproximación a la perspectiva integrada del capital social bajo la Teoría de recursos y capacidades. Para ello se seleccionó la base de datos Scopus de la cual se extrajo la información necesaria para realizar un análisis bibliométrico de citación, palabras clave y autoría con el apoyo de las herramientas Excel y VOSviewer. Así mismo, se aplicó una revisión de contenido a los 46 documentos que arrojó la búsqueda. Los resultados confirman que el capital social es visto como un recurso firme que contribuye a mejorar el desempeño y la formación de ventajas competitivas sostenibles, además de estar estrechamente vinculado al uso del capital humano y desarrollo de capacidades como la innovación, el aprendizaje, la adaptación, así como a la gestión del conocimiento. Propósito: El objetivo de esta investigación es identifi car los factores críticos de éxito del sector joyero de la Zona Metropolitana de Guadalajara, para compararlos con aquellos factores usualmente identifi cados en la literatura. Metodología: Los factores de la literatura se tomaron de un análisis bibliométrico. Los factores del sector se obtuvieron mediante estudio de casos con entrevistas realizadas a actores clave. Resultados: Se encontró que hay tres grupos de factores: los de la literatura, no relacionados con el sector (software); los de la industria (precio, diseño, trato, reputación) y los coincidentes (calidad, innovación). El E-commerce no destaca en los principales, pero se identifi ca como una necesidad. Se observó que la transferencia de conocimiento intergeneracional es esencial en el sector para construir ventajas competitivas. Implicaciones: Se estudia la industria joyera de la Zona Metropolitana de Guadalajara, porque compite exitosamente en los mercados internacionales y aporta el 60 % de la producción mexicana total. Originalidad/valor: Por su naturaleza, el sector joyero se maneja de forma confi dencial. Por esta razón, existen pocos estudios sobre esta industria.
