Objetivos: Conocer la actual magnitud y perfil de resistencia en los afectados de la tuberculosis del penal de Trujillo. Materiales y métodos: El estudio fue descriptivo observacional. Los datos fueron tomados de informes de la estrategia TB del penal de varones de Trujillo y de los registros del laboratorio referencial de la Gerencia Regional de Salud entre enero 2012 a diciembre 2015. Se analizaron resultados de incidencia, prevalencia y de pruebas de sensibilidad a fármacos antituberculosos. En el análisis estadístico se utilizó medidas de frecuencia simple y cruzada; el test de student y la prueba Z, mediante el programa estadístico IBM SPSS 23.0. Resultados: Se obtuvieron datos de 308 varones con tuberculosis pulmonar; 245 (79,5%) contaban con resultados de pruebas de sensibilidad. El promedio de edad fue de 29,6 ± 8,7 años. En los antes tratados se evidenció altas tasas de resistencia a isoniacida, estreptomicina y rifampicina y en los nunca tratados se evidenció altas tasas de resistencia a isoniacida y estreptomicina. La prevalencia de tuberculosis multidrogo resistente estuvo entre el 3,8% y 8,9 %. Conclusiones: la resistencia a isoniacida fue alta tanto en pacientes con y sin antecedente de tratamiento previo y la tuberculosis pulmonar multirresistente es un problema epidemiológico; pero menor que la resistencia a isoniacida.
